MID-Infrared Absorption Analysis of a Painting Mid-infrared reflection spectroscopy was performed on an early-mid 20th century painting by Danish artist Poul Kastrup. Interpretation of the Results wavetengtn (pm) Key Observations The results show that there are multiple spectral regions of interest. Between 2.0 jm and 2.5 jm, the differences in spectra provide valuable insight into the O-H, N-H, and C-H overtone and combination bands. The spectra indicate that Point 2, with lower absorption has likely an inert dry mineral, Point 1, 4 and 5 show more structured absorption due to biners or hydrated pigments and Point 3 has highest and broadest absorption suggesting a combination of organic binders and possibly hydrated material.
