N.I.R.A. S.r.l. AUTOMATIC GAS CHROMATOGRAPHIC ANALYZER for BTX and µVOCs Mod. Jupiter 501 NIRA Analyser Mod. JUPITER 501 (BTX) is a very sensitive instrument specifically designed to automatically measure traces of organic volatile composites in air. It is an automatic system equivalent for sampling and measuring: benzene, toluene, ethyl-benzene, p-xylene, m-xylene, o-xylene [Analytic method of reference according to DM on 25/11/1994]. It was designed to simplify typical monitoring problems, carrying out the task in cabins or mobile units, maintaining the sensitivity and selectivity typical of gas chromatography at a laboratory and guaranteeing ease of use. This instrument determines organic volatile composites using the principle of enriching in a trap of absorbent material, then desorbing it in a capillary column for detection via FID. With the new JUPITER 501 (BTX), N.I.R.A. gives coherent and complete results to those who value air quality: monitoring urban vehicular traffic pollution, fixed or on mobile units; monitoring industrial or residential areas near plants that produce aromatic composites. After long and careful experimentation, N.I.R.A. is launching an instrumental solution, fruit of the synergy created by two proven technologies, and based on tradition and reality: "Analytic Process" Technology •Flame ionising detector: linearity, reproducibility, high reliability and can be used in cabins; •Sampling and switching valves: they can work for a nearly infinite amount of time, and at a high temperature without requiring maintenance; •Optimised Pneumatic: an automatic electronic system that controls pressure and flow incorporated in a traditional pneumatic, with reduced tweaking time, facilitation for the operator, and optimisation of instrument performance; •Sampling using a pump and selectable mass-flow controller, inserted in the system; •Enrichment on trap: it does not require added cryo-focusing systems; •Automatic gas chromatographic separation with capillary columns; •Automatic injection system for thermal desorption: •Hermetic detectors with channelled unloading: they can be used in any environment, even in atmosphere controlled cabins; •Temperature control of sampling. •High precision thermostatic chromatographic chamber for high resolution separations; "PC Embedded" Technology •Allows for total visibility in the analytic phase; •Increased quality of the chromatogram graphic thanks to an LCD/TFT display: allows for real time control of analysis; •Increased sampling capacity for precise chromatogram elaboration; •Accurate elaboration of signals: integration, elaboration, registration of statistics history, and eventual arising anomalies. •Graphic and numeric re-elaboration off-line: it prevents repeating determinations; •Continuous control of: operating parameters, enrichment cycle, desorption, analysis and reconditioning; •Registration of the measurement trend; •Auto-diagnostic; •Remote access via Ethernet. OPERATING PRINCIPLE The analyser is usually in "Stand-by" phase: the gas carrier (H2) running through the trap, column and the pre-column is washed against current. If operating conditions (pressure, temperature and the presence of flame) are correct, after a pre-established time, or after the appropriate command, the analytic cycle continues in the following way: -column. A few seconds later, the trap is heated to 300°C. In this manner, the composites trapped during the previous cycle are released (desorbed) and transferred to the pre-column and column (in series). (This state must last long enough to allow for desorption of the trapped composites.) •The system completely cleans the trap by heating it and passing through pure hydrogen. Meanwhile, the gas carrier brings the composites into the columns. •The trap is cooled so that it is ready to trap the next sample for analysis. •This phase is composed of two simultaneous events: 1) analysis of the composites sent to the columns; 2) trapping (sampling) a gas sample, for the next analysis, in the trap. •When the sought after composite (BTX) has passed through the pre-column, the heavier composites, left inside the pre-column, are eliminated with an auxiliary gas wash against current. The composites that reach the detector (FID) produce a chromatogram analysis on the display. If operating conditions are correctly maintained at the end of the chromatogram, a new analysis cycle is started; if otherwise, the instrument is brought to "Stand-by" phase where anomaly diagnostics can be run.

General parameters table (F1 – INSTRUMENT CONFIGURATION) In this table general operating parameters can be set, as well as those pertaining to analytic operating. •Oven temperature (°C): Chamber temperature containing the column. •H2 FID pressure (bar), Servo pressure (bar), Air FID pressure (bar), Back flush press (bar): Set values for relative pressures. •Carrier (bar): Set value for gas carrier pressure (electronic regulator). •Valve wash on/off (sec), Trap hi-temp ON/OFF (sec), Back Purge ON/OFF(sec), Start/End...
Open the catalog to page 2REPRESENTATION OF RESULTS Analysis is viewed in real time on the display. The values of the most meaningful sizes are monitored together with the chromatogram. Additionally, a table with the previous analysis results can be viewed on the monitor, and zoom in/out operations can be carried out on the chromatogram. At the end of analysis, a special chromatogram elaboration algorithm performs the operation of identifying peaks and calculates their areas, then the results are presented on screen as on the screens below: Esempio di cromatogramma di analisi aria ambiente (nel riquadro il rapporto...
