Product catalog summary
Introduction
The document introduces the PIPE PIER® solution, a support system for pipes, conduits, cables, and HVAC equipment on roofs and raised floors. It addresses the challenges posed by traditional support systems and offers a durable, cost-effective alternative.

The Problem
Commercial roofs face harsh environmental conditions and the movement of heavy equipment, leading to the development of various support systems to comply with the Uniform Mechanical Code. However, many traditional systems, such as wood blocks and welded structures, can damage roof membranes and are labor-intensive.

Disadvantages of Traditional Systems
  • Treated Wood Blocks: Labor-intensive, prone to deterioration, heavy, and can damage roof membranes.
  • Welded Structural Steel, Strut Bridges & Trapeze Assemblies: Require welding equipment, can damage roof membranes, and often lack proper engineering.

The Solution: PIPE PIER®
PIPE PIER® offers an innovative support solution made from UV-resistant, closed-cell polyethylene foam. It is designed to be roof-friendly, easy to install, and versatile.

Advantages of PIPE PIER®
  • Quick and Easy Installation: Requires simple tools and allows for precise installation.
  • Lightweight and Safe: Ten-pack weighs only ten pounds, making it easy to transport.
  • Versatile: Can be used in various combinations for different support needs.
  • Strut Channel: Compatible with readily available strut clamps and accessories.
  • Mechanical and Environmental Testing: Meets ASTM standards and has been tested for UV resistance and durability.
  • Cost Effective: Reduces maintenance, capital costs, and labor.

Pipe Pier® Tri-Fold-1

THE PIPE PIER® SOLUTION Pipe Support Systems for Roof and Raised Floor Applications The Problem The commercial roof is a hostile environment. Daily, it is subject to sun, wind, rain, ice, and snow. Movement of roof attachments and heavy equipment also take their toll. As a result, a large number of expensive and ineffective support systems have been developed to meet the Uniform Mechanical Code 1346.2213, Section 2213 which states: “Piping must not be installed in or on the ground, under building or structures. Piping must be kept at least 3-1/2” above grade or structure.” Many of these support systems, however, may actually shorten roof life. The most commonly used rooftop supports are wood blocks (the most common use and cause of roof membrane failure), welded structural attachments, strut bridges, and trapeze assemblies. Disadvantages of Treated Wood Blocks • Labor Intensive • Deteriorate quickly and can split when screwing attachments to the block • Limited hardware attachments • Heavy to transport • Sharp edges that can cause roof membrane damage • Specification may require Styrofoam on the bottom of the wood block, which has a short life span and poor shear strength. • Specification may require encapsulating the wood block in rubber, which is both time consuming and expensive. Disadvantages of Welded Structural Steel, Strut Bridges & Trapeze Assemblies • Labor Intensive • Welding equipment & tooling required. Welding can create sparks on the roof that can cause roof membrane damage. • Sharp edges that can cause roof membrane damage • Small footprint does not distribute weight & stress effectively • Often not engineered or designed with loading calculation, movement or stress analysis.
