The IF626 - Audio Access Module for the Nimbra 600 series of Media Service Routers (MSR) provides a transport service for either AES/EBU or MADI for high-quality audio production, contribution and distribution. AES/EBU Professional audio over the WAN The IF626 - Audio Access Module The Nimbra MSR platform is specifically aimed at providing a dynamic service-aware overlay for media services on top of the transport infrastructure. In this overlay, the Nimbra MSRs effectively aggregates and routes media traffic. This overlay enables dynamic provisioning of services end-to-end without traffic engineering, cutting provisioning times down to seconds, and provides per service protection and performance monitoring. The IF626 - Audio Access Module transport and deliver "base band” audio, ready to be used as is the audio production or delivery chain. While IP audio is very efficient in the studio, it has some fundamental problem when used over the WAN. Firstly, it is dependent on that the infrastructure is PTP enabled, which is hardly never the case for WAN connections. Secondly, due to its intended studio applications, IP audio solutions often have limited delay budget, prohibiting the WAN use case. Thus the IF626 complements studio IP audio with an “Audio over the IP WAN” solution in the Service Providers or Broadcaster network. It is not dependent on PTP nor does it have any distance limitations and can thus work like a WAN bridge for audio between studios or other premises. In AES transport mode, the module enables efficient transport of up to eight AES/EBU (AES3) digital audio signals. All standard sample rates are supported and the transport is 24-bit in order to not compromise the audio quality. MADI When configured for MADI transport, the module provides transparent forwarding of up to seven MADI streams, each including up to 64 AES/EBU channels. The module uses one port to input a sync reference signal to align the MADI output to a studio SPG in order to interoperate with other audio signals of the studios audio mixer. Availability and Flexibility The IF626 - Audio Access Module is fully supported by the Nimbra media fabric overlay to deliver its content with superb quality and with highest availability over most infrastructures. The module support different protection alternatives such as re-routing or 1+1 standby protection. For highest flexibility and cost efficiency each port can be individually configured as In, Out or Monitor, and each port can monitor any other port.
