Pulsation Dampeners

Pulsation Dampeners

Pulsation Dampeners

Product catalog summary
Purpose
Neptune pulsation dampeners are designed to be installed on the discharge side of positive displacement pumps. Their primary function is to eliminate the pulsating flow caused by the pump's start and stop action, ensuring a smooth and continuous flow. This helps in reducing pipe vibration and protecting in-line instrumentation. Additionally, dampeners can be used at the pump inlet to stabilize the inlet conditions and improve the Net Positive Suction Head (NPSH) by minimizing acceleration pressure losses.
Features
  • Lightweight and compact design
  • Equipped with a pressure gauge and charging valve
  • Facilitates easy in-line maintenance
  • Pressure ratings up to 1000 psi with a 4:1 safety margin
  • Available in a wide range of plastics, metals, and elastomers
How They Work
The dampener consists of a pressure chamber divided by an elastomeric bladder. The lower chamber is filled with the pumped liquid, while the upper chamber contains an air cushion pre-charged to a suitable pressure. During each pump discharge stroke, the bladder is displaced into the air cushion, absorbing energy. During the pump suction stroke, the air cushion and bladder force the liquid out, maintaining a steady flow.
Model Specifications
The document lists various models such as PD36SS, PD85SS, and PD36PV, each with specific degrees of dampening and compatibility with different Neptune pump models. The models vary in terms of material, pressure rating, connection size, and dimensions.
Dampener Selection
To select the appropriate dampener, use Chart #1 to determine the required size in cubic inches for the desired degree of dampening. Chart #2 helps in selecting the model number based on size, material, and pressure requirements. All units come with a pressure gauge and charging valve.
Accessories
A charging kit accessory (Part No. CK701) is available, which includes an 8-foot hose with a 5000 psi rating, a 1/4" NPTM fitting for connection to a nitrogen bottle regulator, and a charging adaptor with a purge valve and gauge.

Pulsation Dampeners-1

Pulsation Dampeners Purpose Neptune dampeners are installed on the discharge side of positive displacement pumps to remove the pulsating flow caused by the start and stop action of the pump. Dampeners ensure a smooth and continuous flow, eliminate pipe vibration and protect in-line instrumentation. Dampeners may also be installed at the pump inlet as an inlet stabilizer to improve the NPSH condition of the pump by reducing the acceleration pressure losses due to the opening and closing of the inlet ball valve. Features • Lightweight, compact design • Equipped with pressure gauge and charging valve • Easy in-line maintenance • Pressure ratings to 1000 psi with 4:1 safety margin • Extensive range of plastics, metals and elastomers How They Work A pressure chamber is divided by an elastomeric bladder. The lower portion of the chamber is filled with the pumped liquid, the upper portion of the chamber contains an air cushion. The air cushion is pre-charged to a pressure appropriate for the operating condition. The energy from each pump discharge stroke displaces the bladder into the air cushion allowing the dampener to absorb the energy. The air cushion and bladder force liquid out of the bladder during the pump suction stroke.
