Product catalog summary

Product Overview

The AQUA Drill Three Flutes with End Cutting Teeth is a high-precision carbide drill designed for efficient and high-quality drilling of cast holes in cast iron, aluminum castings, and low carbon steels. It features three flutes with end cutting edges, providing excellent cutting balance, low vibration, and high wear resistance. The drill enables reamless finishing and high positional accuracy, improving machining efficiency especially for cast holes with positional displacement.

Key Features

  • High-Quality Machining: Achieves precise hole positioning and smooth finishes without the need for secondary reaming processes.
  • Low Vibration: The balanced three-flute design suppresses vibration and abnormal noise during cutting.
  • High-Speed and High-Efficiency: Utilizes tough, wear-resistant carbide alloy and specialized coatings to enable fast cutting speeds and feeds.
  • Position Correction Capability: High corrective force compensates for positional displacement in cast holes, ensuring accurate boring.
  • Reamless Finishing: Capable of producing finished holes without additional reaming steps.

Applications

  • Drilling cast holes in cast iron (FC250, FC300), ductile cast irons (FCD400, FCD700), aluminum alloy castings (ADC12), and low carbon steels (S35C, SC).
  • Counterboring holes in low carbon steels.
  • High-efficiency drilling of casting holes and screw pilot holes.

Technical Specifications and Performance

  • Tool Diameter Range: 3.0 mm to 12.0 mm (various lengths and flute lengths available).
  • Cutting Conditions Example (7 mm diameter tool): Cutting speed 40 m/min, feed 350 mm/min, hole depth 7 mm, prepared hole diameter 6 mm, eccentricity 0.1 mm.
  • Machining Accuracy (S35C): Surface roughness Rz = 2.8 μm, oversize 4 μm, displacement 11 μm, roundness 1.49 μm.
  • Positional Correction: Corrects displacement from 0.1 mm before machining to 1 μm after machining.

Recommended Usage and Conditions

  • Use DLC-coated version (made-to-order) for aluminum castings.
  • For holes with more than 80% prepared hole diameter, the listed cutting conditions apply.
  • If no prepared hole exists, AQUA Drill Three Flutes without DLC coating is recommended.
  • Wet machining is recommended for high precision.
  • For dry machining, reduce rotation speed and feed rate to 70% or less of the standard values and use air blow for cooling and chip removal.
  • Adjust cutting conditions if vibration or abnormal noise occurs.
  • Ensure proper clamping of tool and workpiece; avoid using worn or chipped tools.
  • Handle cutting edges carefully to avoid injury.

Performance Examples

  • Machining of 2,000 holes with diameter variation less than 0.005 mm.
  • Combining mid-finishing and finishing into a single process while maintaining H8 tolerance.
  • Increasing hole count from 20,000 to 60,000 with stable accuracy.
  • Applications include machine parts (S50C), cast iron parts (FC250), and cylinder heads (ADC12).

Ordering Information

Available drill diameters range from 3.0 mm to 12.0 mm with various shank diameters, overall lengths, and flute lengths. DLC-coated versions for aluminum casting are made-to-order. Tolerances vary by drill diameter, with tighter tolerances for smaller diameters.

Safety and Usage Precautions

  • Do not use under inappropriate cutting conditions.
  • Do not use tools with significant wear or chipping.
  • Securely clamp both tool and workpiece during machining.
  • Avoid touching cutting edges with bare hands.
  • Prevent chips from contacting the body.
  • Keep body and clothing away from rotating tools.
