Product catalog summary
Introduction
Moxa's OBU-102 fiber optical bypass units enhance network reliability by adding bypass relay functionality to any network node. This feature is crucial in linear topologies where a single power outage or node failure can disrupt the entire network. The OBU-102 ensures continuity by bypassing the failed node, maintaining network integrity.

Specifications
The OBU-102 supports Fast, Gigabit, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet fiber connections with SC/ST/LC connectors. It features redundant dual 12/24/48 VDC power inputs, an IP30 metal housing, and operates within a temperature range of -20 to 70°C. The unit is designed for DIN-rail mounting and consumes ultra-low power at 0.72 W.

Bypass Properties
The optical switching time is a maximum of 10 ms, with an insertion loss of up to 1.6 dB. It includes fiber ports for 100M/1G/10G connections and rotary switches for configuring boot delay intervals.

Power Requirements
The unit operates on 12/24/48 VDC with redundant dual inputs, supporting an operating voltage range of 9.6 to 60 VDC. It includes overload current protection and reverse polarity protection.

Physical Characteristics
The OBU-102 features a metal housing with IP30 protection, dimensions of 53.6 x 135 x 105 mm, and a weight of 700 g. It supports both DIN-rail and optional wall mounting.

Environmental Limits
The operating temperature ranges from -20 to 70°C, with storage temperatures from -40 to 85°C. It supports ambient relative humidity from 5 to 95% (non-condensing).

Standards and Certifications
The unit complies with safety standard UL 508 and EMC standard EN 55032 Class A. It meets various EMI and EMS standards, including CISPR 32 and IEC 61000 series for ESD, RS, EFT, surge, and CS. It also adheres to shock, freefall, and vibration standards IEC 60068-2-27, IEC 60068-2-32, and IEC 60068-2-6, respectively.

Warranty
The OBU-102 comes with a 2-year warranty. Further details are available on Moxa's website.

Ordering Information
Available models include OBU-102-SS-SC, OBU-102-SS-ST, and OBU-102-SS-LC, each supporting different single-mode connector types. Optional accessories include various DIN-rail power supplies and mounting kits.

Package Checklist
The package includes the OBU-102 unit, a hardware installation guide, and a warranty card.

In linear topologies, a single power outage or node failure can take out an entire chunk of the network, because communications to all the network nodes further down the line are also cut. With relay bypass, that node is instead simply bypassed in the event of a failure, and the rest of the network is unaffected. The OBU-102 sits between a node and the network to add bypass relay functionality to any network switches that do not already support this important function. In normal operations, the OBU-102 simply acts as a gateway that forwards network traffic to and from the network switch. However, if power is lost, the OBU-102 will bypass the unpowered switch and simply pass network traffic to the next switch in the relay.
