Motoman File Management System (FMS) - 1

File Management System SOLUTIONS IN MOTION® FILE COMMUNICATION FILE COMPARISON Motoman’s File Management System (FMS) is a comprehensive robot file backup solution. FMS maintains the integrity of robot files by executing routine robot controller backups. The controller backups are logged in a revision-controlled database. Because each file version is saved, the user can revert to any particular version of a file. The FMS software also provides a manual interface to manipulate robot files. The FMS suite is composed of three integral parts: the client, server and driver. The FMS client is the main user interface for the FMS suite. It can be installed on any PC that has network access to the FMS server. At least one license for the FMS server is required to complete the FMS software suite. User Authentication n Client can be configured for different user rights, such as reading, deleting and restoring robot files. (Password protection authorizes/tracks users and safeguards against unauthorized activity.) Client Interface n Similar to Windows® Explorer. Each robot connection can be browsed like a folder in Explorer and the files are organized in a hierarchical structure. From the main interface, files currently on the robot can be browsed, and checked in and out of the FMS server. Backup Scheduler n Built-in scheduler provides friendly interface to schedule routine backups of each robot controller. Allows user to select frequency of backup to occur at designated intervals (i.e. daily or weekly) and the specific files to back up (i.e. ALL.PRM, AAA.JBI or all files). Robot File Comparison n Two versions of a file are displayed and the differences are highlighted in red. Communication n The FMS driver is a native communication interface to the robot that provides supplemental robot status information along with file communication. It communicates via Ethernet (requires 147666-1 for XRC) or serial communications. n FMS FTP communications can be swapped for the FMS driver if the robot has an Ethernet port (144162-1 for XRC) and the FTP function. Since FTP protocol only transmits files, no robot status information is received. An FMS driver is required for every controller from which status information is desired; otherwise the FTP connection can be used. Version Control n Notifies users by e-mail when a file has been modified. n The FMS server is the central location where the robot files reside. It contains an Microsoft Data Exchange (MSDE) [Sequel Server (SQL)] database. The MSDE database archives (an unlimited number of) different versions of files. n Prompts users to enter a revision note every time a new version of a file is generated. n Provides indefinite file structure depth for file groups. n Supports storage folder customization for each robot controller, allowing each one to have its own folder structure. n Generates audit records for all activities like check-in, check-out, backup, etc. in the database.
