Magnetic Particle Brakes and Couplings

Product catalog summary
Overview
The document provides comprehensive technical information on magnetic particle brakes and couplings, designed for high torque in compact forms. These devices are used in applications such as braking, coupling, torque control, and tension regulation.
Design and Function
Magnetic particle brakes or couplings consist of two independently rotating rotors, with an electrical coil in Rotor A powered by DC current. Magnetic powder in the air gap forms a chain when magnetized, creating a torque proportional to the current.
Advantages
  • Noiseless operation
  • Torque directly proportional to current
  • Torque independent of rotational speed above 40 rpm
  • Robust design suitable for continuous slip
  • Wide torque adjustment range (1:50)
Applications
  • Clutch and coupling operations
  • Braking
  • Torque control and limiting
  • Tension control in spooling and unspooling
  • Controlled braking and acceleration of inertias
Technical Specifications
Specifications include nominal torque, minimal torque, coil resistance, rated current, rotor inertia, and operational temperature ranges. Recommended mounting principles emphasize stress-free installation and horizontal shaft orientation.
Mounting Recommendations
  • Stress-free mounting using flexible couplings if necessary
  • Designed for horizontal operation with speeds between 60 and 3000 rpm
