Product catalog summary
Overview: This document outlines the technical specifications, operational guidance, and recommended cutting conditions for the MPS and MSL series of solid carbide drills. It covers drill dimensions, types, tolerances, and procedural recommendations for effective drilling operations.
Specifications:
  • Drill Types: Includes MPS-DIN, MPS-DIN-C, MPS-L, and MPS-L-DIN-C, with variations in shank types such as whistle notch and cylindrical.
  • Dimensions: Detailed dimensions are provided for each drill type, including diameter, order number, stock status, hole depth, and type.
  • Tolerances: Specific tolerances are outlined for different drill diameters, distinguishing between DIN type and others.
Operational Guidance:
  • Drilling a Pilot Hole: Use low revolution and specific feed rates for initial penetration and retraction.
  • Breaking Through: Use a drill with a larger point angle and specific feed rates to prevent damage.
  • Drilling on Irregular Surfaces: Spot facing is advised to ensure a flat surface for drilling.
Recommended Cutting Conditions:
  • Work Materials: Includes stainless steel, heat-resistant alloys, ductile cast iron, cast iron, carbon steel, alloy steel, and mild steel.
  • Cutting Speed and Feed: Tables provide recommended speeds and feeds based on material hardness and tensile strength.
  • Drill Length: For drills longer than l/d=10, a pilot hole is recommended.
Contact Information: The document lists contact details for MMC Hardmetal and Mitsubishi Materials offices across Europe, including Poland, Germany, Spain, the UK, France, Italy, and Russia.

MPS drills - High speed deep hole drilling-23

Drilling a pilot hole > Initial cutting with the long type drill. > Use a drill with a larger (flatter) point angle than the super long type. Mitsubishi type MZE, MZS or MS is recommended.Use a drill with the same diameter as the deep hole drill.Drill depth : Approx 2-3D or deeper.Ensure a high precision hole is drilled for the guide. Penetrate the guide hole at low revolution. (n=300), and a feed rate of Vf=1000Stop the long type drill 0,5mm-1mm short of the guide hole bottom. Start cutting at the recommended speed and feed with a non-peck (continuous feed) cycle.Retract the drill to the pilot...
