Overview of Pallet Types

This document compares two main types of pallets used in logistics and storage: Closed Pallets and Open Pallets.

Closed Pallet

• Design: Fully enclosed bottom deck, providing a solid base.
• Advantages: Offers better protection for goods, prevents smaller items from falling through, and provides greater stability during transport.
• Applications: Ideal for heavy or fragile goods requiring extra support and protection.

Open Pallet

• Design: Bottom deck consists of spaced slats or blocks, allowing airflow and easier handling.
• Advantages: Lighter weight, easier to clean, and generally less expensive to produce.
• Applications: Suitable for goods that do not require full bottom support and benefit from ventilation.

Key Considerations

• Selection depends on the nature of the goods, handling equipment, and storage conditions.
• Closed pallets provide enhanced protection but may be heavier and costlier.
• Open pallets offer cost and weight advantages but may be less protective.
