Xenon Flashlamp Systems

Xenon Flashlamp Systems

Product catalog summary
Overview: This document provides technical specifications and assembly instructions for the Oriel Xenon Flashlamp Systems, specifically the Series Q Flashlamp System. It includes details on components, safety considerations, and power supply specifications.
Specifications: The Series Q Flashlamp System uses a modular housing with a xenon flashlamp. Two interchangeable lamps are available: a 0.32 J flashlamp and a 5 J flashlamp. The system requires specific components such as the 60000 Series Q Lamp Housing, condensing lens assemblies, a rear reflector assembly, interface kits, socket adapters, and power supplies.
Assembly Instructions: To build the Series Q Flashlamp System, users need to gather the necessary components, including the lamp housing, condensing lens assembly, rear reflector (optional for maximum output), interface kit, socket adapter, power supply, and the chosen flashlamp.
Performance and Output: The document includes a comparison of different condensing lens assemblies, highlighting their transmittance range and lens multiplication factor. A graph (Fig. 1) illustrates the UV output from the 6427 Xe flashlamp with and without a rear reflector, showing the reflector's effectiveness at various wavelengths.
Safety Considerations: Due to the high peak power and UV output of these lamps, appropriate safety precautions are necessary, such as enclosing the beam or using safety eyewear and gloves.
Power Supplies: The 68825 and 68826 power supplies are designed for the xenon flashlamps, featuring front panel control, automatic flash energy adjustment, and specific operating limits. Specifications include AC input, output power, maximum energy, trigger input, and sync output.
Electromagnetic Interference (EMI): The document notes that arc lamp ignition can create significant electromagnetic energy, potentially interfering with other equipment. Proper earthing, cable routing, and EMI shielding are recommended to mitigate interference.
Ordering Information: Detailed ordering information is provided for lamp housing, accessories, condensing lens assemblies, lamps, interface kits, socket adapters, and power supplies, including model numbers and descriptions.

These Pulsed Sources use the modular Series Q Housing and a xenon flashlamp. We offer a choice of two interchangeable lamps: a 0.32 J flashlamp and a 5 J flashlamp, described on page 120. Build Your Own System To build your own Series Q Flashlamp System you will need: • 60000 Series Q Lamp Housing • Condensing Lens Assembly (Assemblies) • 60005 Rear Reflector Assembly* • Appropriate Interface Kit for your lamp • Appropriate Socket Adapter for your lamp • Appropriate Power Supply for your lamp • Your choice of flashlamp * Not required, but recommended if you want maximum output. The rear reflector collects the lamp’s back radiation, which would otherwise be lost. See Fig. 1. The data was measured with the MS257™ 1/4 m Spectrograph and a PDA, and although it is not corrected for instrument spectral responsivity, it clearly shows the reflector is more effective at some wavelengths than at others.
