The filters, which are conveniently held by carriers, simply snap in and out of the filter wheel hub. When a filter is removed from the wheel, it can be kept in its carrier. This makes adding the filter back into the wheel at a later time much easier than the traditional way of having to re-insert the filter back into a fixed carrier. This reduces the chances of human fingers touching the optic. Additionally, because both 1/2-in. and 1-in. diameter filter carriers have the same optical center line, they are interchangeable and can be used together on the same wheel. VersaStar™ Modular Filter Wheel assemblies are sold with the carriers for 4.2-mm thick filters. Individual components such as the carrier for 10-mm thick filters are sold separately for customized configurations. Newport carries a full line of 1/2-in. and 1-in. diameter filters which are compatible with the VersaStar Modular Filter Wheel (see page 552).
