Unlike singlet lenses, this results in a constant focal length independent of aperture and far better off-axis performance. Achromats are superior to singlet lenses for monochromatic applications at any visible wavelength. Specifications Focal Length at 589 nm ±2 % Material Optical crown and flint glasses or equivalent Wavelength 400–2500 nm Transmission T>95% visible, T>92% at 1064 nm Design Wavelengths 486.1, 546.1, and 656.3 nm Surface Accuracy 3 fringes (1.5 ë) power, 1/2 fringe (ë/4) irregularity at 632.8 nm over the clear aperture Clear Aperture central 90% of diameter Surface Quality 40-20 scratch-dig Centration, Spherical Lenses 3 arc min Diameter Tolerance +0/-0.1 mm Center Thickness (Tc = Tc1 + Tc2) Tolerance ±0.2 mm for lenses <50.8 mm diameter ±0.4 mm for lenses 50.8 mm diameter ±0.3 mm for PAC076 Edge Thickness (Te) Nominal Value Antireflection Coating Single-layer MgF2: Ravg <1.5%, Rmax <2.5% per surface, 400–700 nm; Multi-layer AR.14: Ravg <0.5%, Rmax <1.5% per surface, 430–700 nm Optimum Field of View 2° Temperature 125 °C, cement limitation Durability MIL-M-13508, MIL-C-675C, MIL-C-14806 Orientation Steepest convex surface should face the infinite conjugate Cleaning Non-abrasive method, acetone or isopropyl alcohol on lens tissue recommended (see page 622) Cemented optic, do not immerse in a solvent Damage Threshold 750 W/cm2 CW, 0.75 J/cm2 with 10 nsec pulses, typical, cement limitation • Superior performance to singlet lenses • Nearly constant focal length across the visible spectrum • Far superior off-axis performance • Multi-layer or single-layer AR coatings • Standard diameters and focal lengths interchange with our singlet lenses Tc Te FFL BFL EFL EFL MgF2 400 450 500 550 600 650 700 0° 3.0 2.0 1.0 0 Reflectance (%) Wavelength (nm) Typical AR.14 Broadband VIS AR Coating 400 450 500 550 600 650 700 3.0 2.0 1.0 0 0° Reflectance (%) Wavelength (nm) Typical LP Series Multi-Axis Translators page 679 LH Series Lens Mounts page 669
