Polarization Maintaining Fibers and Patch Cords

Polarization Maintaining Fibers and Patch Cords

Polarization Maintaining Fibers and Patch Cords

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides detailed information on polarization maintaining single-mode fibers and patch cords, focusing on Fibercore and Corning's PANDA PM fibers. These fibers are designed to preserve the polarization state of light, which is crucial for various optical applications.
Specifications: Fibercore fibers are optimized for wavelengths of 488/514, 633, 820, and 1300/1550 nm, with a beat-length of less than 2 mm, indicating superior polarization-preserving properties. The F-SPPC-13 and F-SPPC-15 models are compatible with standard telecom fibers and PANDA™ fibers, offering low splicing loss and high extinction ratios. Corning's PANDA PM fibers operate across 400-1500 nm with beat lengths from less than 1.7 mm to 5 mm, suitable for high-performance applications.
Applications: These fibers are used in transmitting polarized optical power, polarimetric sensors, coherent transmission, and other applications requiring polarization preservation. Corning's fibers are also used in high-performance transmission laser pigtails, polarization-based modulators, and fiber optic sensors.
Fiber Specifications Table: The document includes a detailed table listing various fiber models, their operating wavelengths, numerical aperture (NA), mode field diameter, cladding and coating diameters, maximum attenuation, and cut-off wavelengths. For example, the F-SPA model operates at 488/514 nm with a maximum attenuation of ≤100 dB/km.
Patchcord Ordering Table: A table is provided for ordering patch cords, detailing model numbers, lengths, corresponding fiber models, and connector types. For instance, the F-PM1300-C-1FCAPC model is a 1-meter patch cord using the F-PM1300 fiber with FC/APC connectors.

The beatlength, the length over which the fiber polarization rotates through 360°, is a fundamental measure of the polarization-preserving performance of the fiber. The shorter the beat-length, the better the polarization-preserving properties of the fiber. The F-SPPC-13 and F-SPPC-15 fibers are polarization maintaining fibers specifically made to be compatible with standard telecom fibers and PANDA™ polarization-preserving fibers. Splicing these fibers to PANDA™ fibers routinely results in a splicing loss of <0.2 dB and an extinction ratio of -32 dB. Typical applications for these fibers include transmission of polarized optical power, polarimetric sensors, polarization state sensors, coherent transmission and detection, and other applications in which the state of polarization of the launched light is to be preserved in the fiber. Corning's PANDA PM fibers offer low attenuation and excellent birefringence for high performance applications. The operating wavelengths range from 400-1500 nm with beat lengths ranging from less than 1.7mm to 5mm. Typical applications include high performance transmission laser pigtails, polarization-based modlators, high-data-rate communications systems, polarization-sensitive components, Raman amplifiers fiber optic sensors, gyroscopes and instrumentation. Both Fibercore and Panda fibers have a step index profile. Polarization Preserving Fiber “Bow-Tie” cladding preserves polarization with stress-induced intrinsic birefringence. The fast axis is oriented horizontally.
