S Y S T E M B U S I N E S S U N I T Advanced System iinstalllled iin 2002 Pick & Place Machine An innovative solution to automate laser diode test and characterization processes Application Pick & Place Machine Dedicated to Test/Measure and In-Line Sort Diced Laser Diodes Newport has developed an automated and customizable “Pick and Place” platform for the fiber optic industry to improve yield and eliminate errors due to manual test operations. The system automates material handling operations during test, measurement and sort out of diced laser diodes (LD) or bars of laser diodes (BD) in-line. Items can be automatically picked up from a Gel Pack™ or “Blue Film” tray, depending on customer requirements. The base station has an open architecture that allows Newport’s station to fit with customer requirements. It was designed to perform various tests such as: • Electrical characteristics: Kink level, Efficiency, L/V/I curves. • Optical characteristics: Spectrum analysis (Extra OSA is needed). • Geometrical defect analysis using vision module. Key Features • Cycle time <0.34 minute • High quality diode holder • Visual pre-check with camera to minimize measurement time Camera and collet holder at home position.
