Oriel Photomultiplier Tubes and Detectors

Oriel Photomultiplier Tubes and Detectors

Oriel Photomultiplier Tubes and Detectors

Product catalog summary
Overview: This document provides detailed information on various light test and measurement instruments, focusing on photomultiplier tubes (PMTs), photodiode detectors, and thermal detectors. It includes specifications, responsivity curves, and ordering information for different models.
Photomultiplier Tubes (PMTs): PMTs are cost-effective solutions for low light level measurements, sensitive from 160 nm in the UV to 1100 nm in the NIR. They are available in side-on and end-on configurations, with side-on being more economical and end-on offering a larger photocathode area. Essential components include PMT housing and power supply.
Photodiode Detectors: These detectors, available in Si, InGaAs, and Ge, operate in photovoltaic mode for optimal DC and low-frequency performance. Si detectors are suitable for UV to NIR applications, InGaAs for wavelengths up to 1.7 µm, and Ge extends IR response slightly further.
Thermal Detectors: These detectors absorb electromagnetic radiation and measure temperature rise. They feature a broadband response limited by the black coating's spectral flatness and window material transmission characteristics. Three thermopile detectors are offered, differing in window material.
Responsivity Curves: The document includes typical responsivity curves for PMTs, silicon, InGaAs, and Ge detectors, illustrating their performance across different wavelengths.
Ordering Information: Detailed specifications for various models of PMTs, photodiode detectors, and thermopile detectors are provided, including wavelength range, responsivity, and supply voltage.
Accessories: Information on PMT housings and power supplies is included, along with dimensional diagrams for certain detector models.

Photodiode Detectors Photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) Photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) offer a most cost effective, low light level measurement solution. We have PMTs that are sensitive in the UV, as low as 160 nm, and in the NIR as high as 1100 nm (see the responsivity curves). Also available is the choice of side-on vs. end-on. The side-on PMTs are more economical; the end-on systems have a larger photocathode area and have a more uniform responsivity. To have a complete PMT for the power meter, you also need a PMT housing (70680 for a side-on and 77265 for an endon PMT) and a 70705 power supply. For more detailed information on the tubes and their housings, refer to page 1233. Photodiode Detectors These Si, InGaAs, and Ge photodiodes are operated in photovoltaic mode for best DC and low frequency performance, either calibrated or non-calibrated. Fig. 2 and 3 show the typical spectral responsivities of the detectors. Choose the UV versions of Si detector if your work takes you below 400 nm. These Si detectors are sensitive down to 180 nm and offer calibrated performance down to 200 nm. The VIS-NIR version of Si detectors give you the best performance between 400 nm and 1.0 ìm and useful performance to 1.1 ìm. Use the InGaAs units for wavelengths up to the 1.7 ìm long wavelength cut off point. Ge extends the IR response, as compared to InGaAs, by ~0.1 ìm. • A variety of Oriel detectors working with latest Newport power meters • End-on and side-on PMTs • Si, Ge, and InGaAs semiconductor detectors • Highly sensitive thermopiles complementing existing Newport thermal detectors
