Their broadband, wavelength-neutral response is only limited by the spectral flatness of their black coating and the transmission characteristics of any window materials used to protect them. Here we describe our miniature thermoplies with active area of 0.55 x 0.51 mm. ABSORPTION (%) WAVELENGTH (ìm) 100 80 60 40 20 0 5 10 15 20 Fig. 1 Absorption of our Thermopile Detector Coating. Which Detector Do I Choose? We offer a number of choices. One critical choice is the window material, as it limits spectral performance. Table 1 lists the standard materials we offer. Table 1 Window Specifications Material Spectral Range Transmittance Water Solubility Affected by Humidity CaF2 0.13 to 11 ìm 94 % 0.0017 g/100g Sapphire 0.15 to 6 ìm 90 % 0.0 g/100g KRS 5 0.6 to 40 ìm 74 % 0.05 g/100g Si Filter 5 to 13 ìm 75 % 0.0 g/100g TRANSMISSION (%) WAVELENGTH (ìm) 100 80 60 40 20 0 0 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 Fig. 2 71753 Si Filter Absorption. Detector Element Coating We coat the active detector element with a black, metal oxide coating. The spectral properties of this coating are modified by the transmission properties of the windows used with them. Basic Devices Basic devices, models 71750, 71751, 71752 and 71753, are offered with no housings. Mount them yourself; take care to heat-sink the cans for proper operation. They provide the usual microvolt level outputs. Use your own electronics or use our 71774 Amplifier (described on page 1246), to boost the voltage to an "easier to interface to" level. The same electronic performance can be achieved with the devices mounted in our standard housings, with 1.5 Inch Series female flanges. If a transimpedance amplifier is your electronic interface, use the models with a precision 100 kÙ series resistor, models 71967, 71968 and 71971. Proper Usage The 71750 - 71753 devices require appropriate sockets and proper heat sinking. The housed units eliminate these concerns. A low noise BNC cable for easy connection to your electronics is part of each of the housed detectors. Temperature Compensation The 71750 - 71753 devices are equipped with a built in thermistor which can be used in temperature compensating circuits. • Broad spectral response - 0.2 to 40 ìm • Excellent long term stability • No bias required
