Motorized Iris Diaphragms for Light Sources
This document provides detailed specifications and ordering information for motorized and manual iris diaphragms used with Oriel Light Sources. These components are essential for precise light attenuation and control in various optical applications.
Two models of motorized iris diaphragms are available, each differing in aperture range. Both models feature 1.5-inch series flanges for direct coupling with Oriel Light Sources and include a 1/4-20 tapped hole. They are driven by a fine resolution stepping motor and can be controlled via PC, RS-232, IEEE-488, or an optional hand controller. The models are:
- Model 62280: Aperture range of 0.08 to 1.4 inches (2 to 36 mm).
- Model 62281: Aperture range of 0.04 to 1 inch (1 to 25 mm).
Manual iris diaphragms are suitable for light attenuation and as lens aperture stops. They are controlled by a lever and should not be used with unfiltered sources rated over 50 W. The models include:
- Model 62030: 1.5-inch series, aperture range of 0.08 to 1.4 inches (2 to 36 mm).
- Model 71400: 1.5-inch series, aperture range of 0.04 to 1 inch (1 to 25 mm).
- Model 62290: 2.0-inch series, aperture range of 0.13 to 2 inches (3.2 to 50 mm).
- Model 62300: 3.0-inch series, aperture range of 0.16 to 2.8 inches (4 to 70 mm).
An optional hand controller (Model 62285) is available for remote operation of the motorized iris diaphragms without a PC.

Both have 1.5 Inch Series flanges to couple directly to Oriel Light Sources, and a 1/4-20 tapped hole in the bottom. Both models are driven by a fine resolution stepping motor located in the iris assembly, which can be commanded via a PC or the included controller (this controller can also control the 74041 Motorized Filter Wheel; see page 266 for the 74041). RS-232 and IEEE-488 communications capability are included. Windows™ and LabView™ libraries of drivers and VIs allow easy control.
