Specifications and Ordering Information

Fiber Cleavers:
  • F-BK2 Precision Fiber Cleaver: Designed for 125 µm fiber cladding with cleave end angles of less than 1°. It supports cleave lengths greater than 3 mm and has a blade life of over 1000 cleaves. Dimensions are 9 in (228 mm) x 3 in (76 mm) x 6 in (152 mm).
  • F-CLX-0-3 Manual Fiber Cleaver: Offers a 0.5-degree angle for 125 µm fiber with a minimum cleave length of 3 mm. It achieves an average cleave angle of less than 0.5° and supports over 20,000 cleaves. Dimensions are 2.8 in (72 mm) x 2.8 in (72 mm) x 3.5 in (90 mm).
  • F-CLX-8-3 Manual Fiber Cleaver: Provides an 8.4-degree angle for 125 µm fiber with a minimum cleave length of 3 mm. It has an average cleave angle of 8° with a standard deviation of 0.35°.
  • F-RCL-8-4F Manual 4-Fiber Ribbon Cleaver: Suitable for 125 µm fiber with ribbon coating, offering a cleave angle of 8.4 degrees and a minimum cleave length of 10 mm. Supports 7-10 cleaves. Dimensions are 3 in (75 mm) x 3 in (75 mm) x 4.3 in (110 mm).
  • F-RCL-8-8F Manual 8-Fiber Ribbon Cleaver: Similar specifications to the 4-fiber version, designed for ribbon fiber applications.

Mode Scrambler:
  • FM-1 Mode Scrambler: This device ensures a stable mode distribution in fibers with low insertion loss, crucial for accurate measurements. It uses a precision mechanism to induce microbending, enhancing mode coupling and filtering. It is optimized for 50 and 100 µm core, graded-index fibers, simulating the distribution achieved after light travels through several kilometers of fiber. The device features a knob for pressure control and a graduated scale for repeatability. Dimensions include a travel of 1.98 in (50.3 mm) max.

Cleave Mode Scrambler FM-1 The FM-1 Mode Scrambler produces a stable mode distribution in a fiber and low insertion loss regardless of the light launch conditions. This condition is important when making accurate measurements of properties and losses due to fiber components. Its precision mechanism gently presses the fiber between specially designed corrugated surfaces to cause microbending of the fiber. This dramatically increases mode coupling among guided modes (known as mode scrambling) and coupling of high-order guided modes to radiation modes (mode filtering). The distribution of power among the modes is then independent of the launch conditions of the light, simulating the distribution achieved after the light has traveled through several kilometers of fiber. The fiber is placed in an easily accessible slot. A knob controls the pressure applied to the fiber until the desired output distribution is achieved. Tests have shown that losses introduced are negligible regardless of launch condition. A graduated scale assures that the fiber may be removed and replaced and the pressure reset with high repeatability. • Repeatedly provides an equilibrium mode distribution • Simulates kilometer lengths of fiber • Negligible insertion loss • Optimized for 50 and 100 ìm core, graded-index fibers .063 (1.6) 2.875 (73.0) .312 (7.9) 2.125 (54.0) 2 SLOTS, 1/4 CLR .438 (11.1) TYP 2.000 (50.8) .063 (1.6) TRAVEL 1.98 (50.3) MAX Ordering Information Model Description FM-1 Mode Scrambler POLARIZATION MEASUREMENT AND CONTROL LASER DIODE CONTROL LASER DIODE MOUNTS FIBER OPTIC COMPONENTS OPTICAL FIBERS AND ACCESSORIES EDUCATIONAL KITS
