High-power Synchronously Pumped OPO-Opal® BB - 1

The Opal BB Advantage High-power Synchronously Pumped OPO Opal® BB • High output power typically >600 mW at 1.3 ìm and >400 mW at 1.5 ìm • Simple automated wavelength scans • Wide continuous spectral coverage by a single set of optics with synchronized signal and idler outputs deliver wavelengths from 1.1 to 2.25 ìm The Spectra-Physics Opal® BB is an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) that delivers broadly tunable femtosecond pulses from 1.1 to 2.25 ìm with a single set of optics. It further extends output of the Mai Tai® HP and Tsunami® ultrafast Ti:Sapphire lasers into the infrared. In addition, Opal BB also provides frequency-doubled wavelengths in the “missing” visible region not accessible by Ti:Sapphire alone. For ease of use, all operational and wavelength tuning features are automatically controlled by the built-in computer, which can be interfaced to other equipment using an RS-232 or GPIB interface. High Power The Opal BB offers higher power than any other commercial OPO through the use of an LBO crystal. This robust material can accept much higher pump power than other bulk or periodically poled materials. As a result, the Opal typically produces >600 mW at 1.3 ìm and >400 mW at 1.5 ìm. Temperature Tunability A fixed LBO crystal angle and temperature scanning achieves a remarkably simple wavelength adjustment. Unlike angletuned systems, the cavity does not need to be realigned after large wavelength scans. Once the Ti:Sapphire wavelength is set, the signal and idler wavelengths can be adjusted from 1.1 to 2.25 ìm using the push-button control or through the computer interface. Hands-free Operation and Wavelength Tuning Because temperature and cavity length stabilization are both automatically controlled through the microprocessor in the electronic module, Opal BB is capable of fully automated wavelength scans. A user-friendly LCD panel allows access to a variety of control menus for setup and scan information, output power, wavelengths, and other operational parameters. Automated wavelength scans over 50 to 100 nm allow the user to focus attention entirely on the experiment and data acquisition, rather than on the laser source.
