Fiber Optic In-Line Polarizers

Fiber Optic In-Line Polarizers

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides detailed information about the F-ILP Series Fiber Optic In-Line Polarizers, designed for fiber optic networks and measurement applications. These polarizers are used for polarization analyzing, monitoring, and control, as well as other applications like Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) monitoring and Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) monitoring.
Key Features:
  • Low insertion loss and high extinction ratio.
  • Compact and rugged design.
  • Available in both pigtailed and no-tail versions.
  • No-tail version eliminates polarization disturbances caused by fiber pigtails.
Applications:
  • Eliminating unwanted polarization states.
  • PMD monitoring.
  • Polarization interferometry.
Specifications:
  • Center Wavelength: 1310 nm and 1550 nm.
  • Wavelength Range: ±50 nm.
  • Typical Insertion Loss: 0.3 dB; Maximum: 0.5 dB.
  • Return Loss: 55 dB.
  • Extinction Ratio: 40 dB typical, 30 dB minimum for SM output; >25 dB for PM output.
  • Maximum Optical Power: 300 mW.
  • Fiber Type: SM (Corning SMF-28) and PM (Fujikura PM Panda fiber).
  • Operating Temperature: 0 to 70°C; Storage Temperature: -40 to 85°C.
  • Dimensions: ø5.5 x 32 mm (with pigtail), ø9.5 x 65 mm (no-tail version).
Ordering Information: The document lists various models of the F-ILP Series with different configurations based on wavelength, fiber type, and connector type. Models are available for both 1310 nm and 1550 nm wavelengths, with options for SM to SM, SM to PM, and PM to PM configurations, and various connector types including FC/APC and FC/PC.

When combined with Newport's F-POL Series Polarization Controllers (see page 375), the F-ILP Series can function as a variable fiber optic attenuator. The F-ILP Series is based on integrating a high PER micro-polarizer in a rugged stainless steel package for high optical performance and stability. These compact devices offer low insertion loss, low back reflection and high extinction ratio. Both pigtailed and no-tail versions are available. The no-tail version has the advantage of eliminating the polarization disturbances caused by fiber pigtails. The pigtailed versions come with ~1 m long fiber pigtails with 900 ìm loose tube. • Low insertion loss • Compact size • High extinction ratio • Rugged design • No-tail model available Applications • Eliminating unwanted polarization states • PMD monitoring • Polarization interferometry Specifications Center Wavelength (nm) 1310, 1550 Wavelength Range (nm) ±50 Insertion Loss, Typical (dB) 0.3 Insertion Loss, Maximum (dB) 0.5 Return Loss (dB) 55 Extinction Ratio SM Output 40 dB typical, 30 dB min.
