The Apex system is a fully integrated package - the lamp, condenser and electronics are in a single enclosure. Simply mount the lamp, plug in the power cord, and turn on the source. You don't need to align the lamp nor adjust the power supply setting (note; you cannot use the 68950 Light Intensity Controller with Apex systems). Fig. 1 shows the simple optical path of an Apex Deuterium Source. A fused silica aspheric lens collects the lamp's radiation and collimates it to a 1.3 inch diameter (33 mm) beam. You can then re-focus the output with one of our focusing lens assemblies (see page 233). If you are focusing into a fiber, use our Apex Fiber Illuminator; see page 157. The output flange of the 70635 Apex Source is a 1.5 Inch Series female flange. You can couple any male flanged accessory of the same series size to the output. Safety Considerations Deuterium Sources emit very high levels of UV radiation. Even short periods of exposure to UV radiation can cause burns to the skin and eyes. Always wear protective eyewear, or gloves (see page 246), and protective clothing. Or, enclose the beam path. • Fully integrated, compact, and simple-to-use • High intensity UV output • Highly collimated, 1.3 inch diameter output beams FUSED SILICA ASPHERIC LENS DEUTERIUM LAMP Fig. 1 Optical configuration of Apex Deuterium Lamp Source. It helps in computing the approximate total power of collimated output in any wavelength band. Use formulae and sample calculations to compute the approximate total power from your source.
