Mercury lamps are excellent sources of high intensity DUV-VIS spectral lines; they are widely used as excitation sources. The systems described here run our 200, 350 and 500 W Hg lamps. You can interchange between lamps by simply changing socket adapters in the lamp housing. These sources consist of: • Lamp Housing with a condenser and a built-in ignitor; see page 111 for detailed information on the housing • 69910 Arc Lamp Power Supply; see page 114 for full specifications • Your choice of mercury arc lamp; see page 101 for specifications and lamp drawings • All necessary cables and mounting hardware Which Source Do I Choose? Various types of condensers are offered for our sources; Table 1 compares them. Each condenser assembly consists of a lens element(s) inside a barrel housing with a locking focusing lever. We offer formulae and sample calculations to compute the approximate total output power from your source please see page 69 for more information. • High intensity UV sources, ideal for DUV-VIS fluorescence spectroscopy • Produce collimated or focused output • Complete systems include lamp, lamp housing, power supply and condensers • Easy, safe set-up and operation Safety Considerations These sources emit dangerous levels of UV radiation and ozone. If you do not need output below ~260 nm, choose an ozone free lamp. If this is not an option, vent the ozone to the outside or use our Ozone Eater (see page 247). To protect yourself from the dangerous UV, wear protective clothing, eyewear and gloves (see page 246). Our condensers are designed to produce a collimated beam, but the focusing lever lets you adjust the lens position to produce a converging or diverging beam. The new asphere condensers are "corrected optics." Their design ensures that they are corrected spherical aberration and lateral chromatic aberration with minimized longitudinal chromatic aberrations.
