Material Specifications:
  • Various materials are listed including Aluminum, Brass, Copper, Cast Iron, Ductile Iron, Magnesium, Nickel Alloys, Plastics, Refractory Alloys, Steel, Stainless Steel, and Titanium.
Procedures and Recommendations:
  • End Mill Speed & Feed Recommendations are provided for different materials.
  • Recommendations are a starting point and may require adjustments for optimal results.
  • For lighter radial depth of cut, use the higher range of recommended surface speeds.
  • For greater radial depth of cut, use the lower range of recommended surface speeds.
  • For slotting applications, reduce speeds to approximately 80% of the heavy cut value for the material.
  • Axial depth of cut should not exceed 1-1/2 times the cutter diameter.
Data Summary:
  • Speed and feed rates are provided for different materials and end mill diameters ranging from 1/8” to 1”.
  • Surface speeds (SFM) and feed per tooth (inches) are specified for each material and diameter.
