Metso DNA Drive Controls The Metso DNA Drive Controls (DNA Drive) control package combines control software, operator interface and engineering configuration of electric drives into one comprehensive package based on Metso DNA distributed network of applications. Now, drive controls are integrated into the same control system together with machine controls, process controls and quality controls. DNA Drive can be used both with sectional drives and single drives. Previously, drive control systems and process control systems have been separate and distinct systems. With the previous “single window” concept, systems were integrated only on the operator interface level. There was a significant redundancy of hardware, multiple data links between systems and separate engineering configuration skills were required. Now, with DNA Drive package, the control logic, interlocks, tension controls, diagnostics, alarms, operator interfaces and engineering functions are combined into one network – Metso DNA. Different types of drives can be connected to Metso DNA. Older DC or AC drives can be connected to Metso DNA with analog or serial interface and newer drives using a fast PROFIBUS interface. In rebuild cases, a mixture of interfaces to various generations of drives can be easily accomplished. PROFIBUS DP is available from all major drive suppliers. Operators are presented with a familiar and consistent interface through which they can perform all drive control and process control functions. Operation In the Metso DNA network, drive controls as well as other process control functions, engineering configuration and operator interface activities are distributed on a common Metso DNA platform. Operator interface functions, drive controls, drive system diagnostics and alarms are executed by Metso DNA application servers.
