Galvanic Cathodic Protection of steel in concrete - 2

Corrosion is recognized as one of the major contributors to the deterioration of reinforced and pre-stressed concrete structures worldwide. The amount of reinforced concrete structures world-wide is growing rapidly and therefore so is the increasing necessity of easily applied low-cost maintenance programs. Over the last 30 years, cathodic protection (CP) has been shown to be a highly effective technique in preventing concrete deterioration from chloride induced and carbonated concrete corrosion. The presence of chloride based salts within the concrete can be a threat to the passivation...

GALVANIC ANODES FOR STEEL IN CONCRETE A GACP system utilises anodes which generate a natural DC current to suppress the corrosion of the steel in concrete. GSC Super Anodes are specifically designed to inhibit corrosion of concrete reinforced structures using GACP. The anodes are typically embedded within the concrete or repair mortar and are electrically connected to the reinforcement by using galvanised ties. As zinc is less noble than steel it means that the anode has a more electronegative potential than the reinforcement steel. This makes the zinc the anode and the steel reinforcement...

The GSC SuperAnodes are made of laminated zinc with a 99.99% purity covered by two layers of different zinc-anodeactivator-paste. Each anode is vacuum sealed in a plastic bag to avoid contamination during shipping and storing. Prior to application the packing is removed, and the anode is ready to be installed. GSC SuperAnodes are supplied in the following sizes: GSC10/10 -------------------- mm 100 x mm 55 x h. mm 12 GSC10/20 ---------------------mm 100 x mm 55 x h. mm 15 GSC30/10 ---------------------mm 300 x mm 50 x h. mm 10 GSC30/20 ---------------------mm 300 x mm 50 x h. mm 12 A)...

ZINC LAYER ANODE (ZLA) Zinc Layer Anode or ZLA is specifically developed for the CP of steel reinforcement in concrete. ZLA is a high purity zinc foil (> 99.9%) coated with an ionically conductive adhesive It is applied directly onto the outer concrete surface. The Zinc-layer is electrically connected to the steel reinforcement. In this way the electrical-circuit is completed as the electric current flows through the adhesive layer and concrete by means of ionic conductance. As soon as the electrical connection is established, the current will flow and ZLA will begin to consume and...

Rollanodes anodes are designed for installation in pre-drilled holes in an existing concrete structure. The electrolyte is sandwiched between the zinc layer rolls to give sufficient current capacity with additional electrolytic paste added around the anode to maintain electrical continuity within the concrete (The anode diameter is 25mm and available in lengths from 100mm to 1m). Rollanodes are utilised in those areas where a high expectancy of corrosion is likely. They guarantee a strong reduction of corrosion and prevent new locations from corroding in the future. Typical applications: -...
