Silicone integral solutions in the Railway Industry
Silicone is extensively used in the railway industry due to its unique properties such as fire resistance (EN 45545-2), low smoke emission (LSFOH), low compression set, weather and UV resistance, chemical resistance, and electrical insulation.
Silicone materials are available in various forms including compact and sponge silicone. They are characterized by hardness (Shore A), density (gr/cm3), and operating temperature range (up to 230°C). Standards such as UL94 V0, IEC 60695-11-10 V0, NF 16 101: Class I2 F0, and BS 6853: Category A1 are met.
- Acoustic Barriers: Used between walls, floors, and ventilation ducts to reduce noise.
- Thermal Insulation: Applied to doors, windows, and transit areas to maintain temperature.
- Smoke Propagation Insulation: Installed between walls and ceilings to prevent smoke spread.
- Sealing: Ensures airtightness in exterior and interior doors and windows.
- Vibration Isolation: Used in electronic panels, lighting equipment, and machinery to reduce vibrations.
Silicone products are tailored for specific railway applications such as inflatable seals for doors, window sealing, and protection of electronic components. These solutions enhance durability and performance by providing sealing, insulation, and vibration reduction.
Various silicone products are available including cords, shaped profiles, co-extrusion silicone, tubes, and moulded pieces. They come in standard, platinum, conductive, steam, THT, fluorosilicone, and detectable formulations. Colors can be translucent or any RAL on request.
