MAGTRACK

Product catalog summary
Introduction to Magtrack
Magtrack is an advanced cable tracking system designed for subsea cables, offering high precision 3D positioning, fault locating, and burial depth detection. It is compatible with all subsea power and communication cables carrying AC current.

System Specifications
The system is lightweight, compact, and robust, featuring titanium sensors and a subsea electronics module (SEM) made of titanium and carbon fiber. It includes four small sensors with 3-axis fluxgate magnetometers and inclinometers for accurate positioning. The SEM processes and transfers data to the surface vessel.

Tracking Capabilities
Magtrack uses two pairs of highly sensitive sensors for precise cable positioning and enhanced directional accuracy for ROV pilots. It supports a wide range of ROVs and AUVs and offers flexibility in flight height.

Fault Locating
The system can detect small changes in magnetic fields, allowing it to accurately pinpoint cable faults by sensing changes in the magnetic field.

Trenching Applications
When installed on a trencher, Magtrack provides accurate cable positioning, steering information, and burial depth data, reducing the need for additional ROV surveys.

Field Proven Projects
  • Viking Link: Successfully used by iSurvey in 2020 and 2023 for subsea cable positioning.
  • Global Connect: Deployed by Baltic Offshore from 2022-2024 for installing 460 km of telecom cables.
  • Shallow Water Test: Tested in shallow waters with an Innomar subbottom profiler, proving effective in depths of 1-20 m.

MAGTRACK-2

What is Magtrack? Magtrack is an outstanding cable tracking system that can accurately detect cable positions, track a cable in 3D, show burial depth and pinpoint fault locations. It can be used on all subsea power and communication cables, carrying an AC current supplied by a tone generator or even the cable load current. Lightweight and compact, the system is still very robust with titanium sensors and a subsea electronics module (SEM) in titanium and carbon fiber. Each Magtrack system comes with 4 small sensors which integrate 3-axis fluxgate magnetometers and inclinometers for easy installation...

Tracking The Magtrack system uses two pairs of small, highly sensitive sensors. This provides significant benefits: ■ Centrimetric cable positioning with instant quality control ■ Improved steering information for ROV pilot through enhanced directional accuracy ■ Wider range of suitable ROVs and AUVs ■ Flexibility of flight height Magtrack sensor

Fault locating Thanks to its highly accurate sensors, Magtrack can sense even small changes in magnetic fields. As most cable faults result in a change of its magnetic field, starting at the fault and continuing onwards, Magtrack can sense this change and pinpoint the fault location with great accuracy. ROV Strong magnetic field Magtrack sensor Weaker magnetic field

Trenching Installed on a trencher, the Magtrack system is a reliable tool for: ■ Accurately positioning the cable relative to the trencher ■ Providing steering information for the trencher pilot ■ Determining burial depth and slope of the cable Since the Magtrack system provides burial depth information during trenching, it reduces the need for documentation by an additional ROV survey. Proven in the field Magtrack is currently deployed by industry leaders across the globe such as: PROJECT 1: Viking Link In 2020 iSurvey (now Reach Subsea) used the newly developed Magtrack successfully on M/S Polar King. In September 2023, iSurvey used the Magtrack system again together with the new Hummingbird tone generator from Megger to determine the exact position of the entire subsea cable. PROJECT 2: Global Connect In 2022-2024 Magtrack was successfully used on a trencher by Baltic Offshore. They installed 460 km of submarine telecom cables for Global Connect´s Aurora project.
