What is Magtrack? Magtrack is an outstanding cable tracking system that can accurately detect cable positions, track a cable in 3D, show burial depth and pinpoint fault locations. It can be used on all subsea power and communication cables, carrying an AC current supplied by a tone generator or even the cable load current. Lightweight and compact, the system is still very robust with titanium sensors and a subsea electronics module (SEM) in titanium and carbon fiber. Tracking The Magtrack system uses two pairs of small, highly sensitive sensors. Fault locating Thanks to its highly accurate sensors, Magtrack can sense even small changes in magnetic fields. As most cable faults result in a change of its magnetic field, starting at the fault and continuing onwards, Magtrack can sense this change and pinpoint the fault location with great accuracy. Trenching Installed on a trencher, the Magtrack system is a reliable tool for: ■ Accurately positioning the cable relative to the trencher ■ Providing steering information for the trencher pilot ■ Determining burial depth and slope of the cable Since the Magtrack system provides burial depth information during trenching, it reduces the need for documentation by an additional ROV survey. Proven in the field Magtrack is currently deployed by industry leaders across the globe such as: PROJECT 1: Viking Link In 2020 iSurvey (now Reach Subsea) used the newly developed Magtrack successfully on M/S Polar King. In September 2023, iSurvey used the Magtrack system again together with the new Hummingbird tone generator from Megger to determine the exact position of the entire subsea cable. PROJECT 2: Global Connect In 2022-2024 Magtrack was successfully used on a trencher by Baltic Offshore. They installed 460 km of submarine telecom cables for Global Connect´s Aurora project.
