Determining the PLr For each selected safety function it is first necessary to determine the required performance level (PLr) and to compare it with the performance level (PL) achieved by the Mayser sensor. The PLr of the safety function must correspond at least to the PL. Example 1: Safety mat in front of processing centre with 30-second cycle in 3-shift operation, 250 days per year. nop= 120 actuations/h x 24 h/day x 250 days = 720,000 actuations per year MTTFd = B10D/ (0.1 x nop) = 6,000,000 / (0.1 x 720,000) = 83.3 years => MTTFd high Example 2: NC safety edge on sliding gate with 2 actuations...

The same example with exclusion of error according to ISO 13849-2 Table D.8: Non-closing of contacts in the case of pressure-sensitive equipment according to ISO 13856. In this case the MTTFD value of the sensor is no longer taken into account for the overall system. Example 4: As in example 3; Safety mat SM connected to SG-EFS 1X4 ZK2/1. MTTFd SG = 313 years -1- -1- MTTFd 313 years MTTFd = 313 years => MTTFD high In this case, the maximum performance level of the overall system can reach PL d. DCavg table Designation DCavg

Determining the PL If the categories, DCavgand MTTFDare known, the performance level (PL) can be determined based on the table. The table shows a simplified procedure for assessment and is used in the first step for estimating the PL. => DC low avg => MTTFd high => PL d Example 5: SG-EFS 104/2W Category 3 DCavg = 60 % MTTFd = 257 years Result:
