Product catalog summary
Company Overview
MAV is an Italian mechanical engineering company founded in 1989, located in Bosentino, Northern Italy. The company is recognized for its creativity and ethical practices, focusing on connecting mechanical components with an emphasis on quality, safety, and environmental conservation.

Product Range
MAV offers the Mini Series line of Keyless Shaft-Hub Locking Devices, including Locking Assemblies, Shrink Discs, and Rigid Couplings. These products aim to enhance mechanical connections by eliminating traditional keyway and spline systems, which are susceptible to fatigue and damage.

Shaft-Hub Connections
Traditional Methods: Keyway and splined systems often suffer from stress concentration and fatigue failure. Forced fit systems provide a backlash-free coupling but are challenging to mount and dismantle.
The MAV System: MAV Locking Devices offer the advantages of forced fit systems with easy installation and removal, using a wedge principle to create high radial forces for a secure connection without notches, enhancing strength and reducing costs.

Product Specifications
MAV 2061: Suitable for medium to high torque applications, self-centering, and self-locking, ideal for servo and stepping motors.
MAV 5061: Designed for thin-walled hubs, offering medium to high torque capacity without axial movement during installation.
MAV 7903: Features a single taper design for easy removal, suitable for medium to high torque applications.
MAV 1204: A rigid coupling for high torque capacity, allowing connection of shafts with different diameters.
MAV 3008: A two-part shrink disc for high torque capacity, recommended for high-speed applications.

Installation Instructions
Locking Assemblies: Ensure parts are oiled, and screws are tightened in a crosswise pattern. For removal, loosen screws and use push-off threads.
Rigid Couplings: Ensure contact surfaces are oiled, and do not tighten screws before mounting. Use similar shaft tolerances and avoid MoS2 based grease.

Installation Instructions for Mini Shrink Discs
Components and Preparation: Ensure the hub is clean and free from dirt and rust. Clean and oil the hub's outer diameter and the Shrink Disc bore. Do not tighten screws during initial assembly.
Installation Procedure: Clean the shaft and hub bore, mount the hub onto the shaft, set the torque wrench to the specified torque, and tighten screws in a pattern. For final tightening, set the torque wrench 3-5% higher than specified, then reset to the specified torque.
Removal Instructions: Clean the hub, loosen screws sequentially using push-off threads, and restore conditions before reinstallation.

Technical Support
MAV provides technical support for product installation and application assistance. Customers can contact MAV engineers for information and assistance in selecting the appropriate Locking Device by filling out a questionnaire.

Data Required for Technical Support: Peak torque, axial force, bending moment, radial force, maximum speed, operating and ambient temperatures, and shaft and hub data including size, material, and yield point.

Shaft-Hub Connections Traditional Methods Fig.1: shaft failure due to fatigue crack (heat treated steel C45) Keyway and splined locking systems show important disadvantages, in particular under overload and frequent torque reversal conditions. Connected parts undergo micro movements which cause them damage. The notch of keyway seat is a stress concentrator which reduces the fatigue strength. The gures show some fatigue failures fractographs of notched shafts (courtesy of ASM International, Metals Handbook, vol 9). Keyways and splines are eliminated by forced t systems (pressing, heating), where...

Shaft-Hub Connections The MAV System The MAV Locking Devices meet both the advantages of forced t systems and simplied installation-removal. It is based on the wedge principle: the axial load of the screws generates through the tapers a high radial force that locks the parts by friction. The main features of MAV Locking Devices are: · shaft - locking device - hub tolerances are sufcient for easy mounting and correct positioning high manufacturing precision permits close geometrical tolerances, leading to a well balanced coupling, also for high speed conditions high pressures let high torque to...
