MARTIN® MP3 Railcar Vibrator

Product catalog summary
Introduction
The MARTIN® MP3 Non-Impacting Linear Railcar Vibrator is engineered to enhance the flow of sticky, coarse, high-moisture materials in railcars. It operates quietly and is maintenance-free when used with filtered and lubricated air. This manual provides installation and operation guidance.

Safety and References
Users must comply with ANSI and OSHA safety standards, especially concerning lockout/tagout procedures. The manual references specific ANSI and OSHA documents for detailed safety requirements.

Materials Required
Installation requires standard hand tools, 3/8” and/or 1/2” Filter-Regulator-Lubricator (FRL) kits, and air motor oil.

Installation Procedures
  • Inspect the shipping container for damage and report any issues immediately.
  • Ensure the mounting surface and vibrator are clean before installation.
  • Position the vibrator on the railcar bracket, ensuring proper synchronization if using multiple units.
  • Connect lubricated air lines to the vibrator, ensuring the air pressure is set between 80–90 psi.
  • Use thin grade air motor oil and size 5 micrometer filters for optimal performance.

Post-Installation and Maintenance
After installation, verify the vibrator's operation and ensure it functions as expected. Weekly maintenance includes checking mounts, fasteners, mufflers, air filters, and ensuring the lubricator is filled with oil.

Troubleshooting
Common issues include the vibrator not running or not performing at full speed. Solutions involve checking air pressure, cleaning mufflers, and ensuring proper lubrication.

Part Numbers
The manual lists part numbers for the vibrator assembly and related components, such as the filter-regulator-lubricator kit, mufflers, and air motor oil.

Read entire section before beginning work. > Installation ! > If installation instructions are not followed, structure and vibrator can be damaged. Abusing or handling vibrator carelessly will accelerate wear and shorten its life. To install the vibrator, follow the procedures corresponding to the following steps:1.Determine where to locate the vibrator on the structure. > Piston vibrators produce linear vibration best applied to wet, sticky material adhering to a railcar wall. The object is to move the wall back and forth to dislodge the material. 2.Connect lubricated air lines to vibrator with...

IMPORTANT > Martin Engineering recommends thin grade air motor oil in vibrators. Installation IMPORTANT > It is strongly recommended to use size 5 micrometer filters due to the small tolerance between piston and bore. IMPORTANT > Air line and FRL kit need to be adequate for individual vibrator. IMPORTANT > Verify lubricator is working while unit is on. Lack of lubrication will terminate vibrator. !If vibrator is mounted more than 6 in. (152 mm) above ground, install cable securing vibrator to structure. Without cable, vibrator could fall and cause injury. WARNING NOTE > For instructions on mounting...
