Models T20/T21

Product catalog summary
Description: The T20 and T21 are float level switches designed for top mounting in tanks or vessels. The T20 model features a single switch mechanism and float, while the T21 model includes two switch mechanisms and floats for dual level alarms. These models are suitable for both open and closed vessels with mounting options up to 1219 mm (48 inches).
Features:
  • Available in carbon or stainless steel with optional materials upon request.
  • Flanged and threaded process connections.
  • Operates at process temperatures up to 540 °C (1000 °F) and pressures up to 41.3 bar (600 psi).
  • Supports specific gravity as low as 0.60.
  • Standard anti-corrosive protection and custom calibration available.
  • Compatible with SIL 2 loops (DPDT switch).
  • Optional features include NACE construction, interface calibration, special tank connections, and more.
Applications: Suitable for use in day tanks, condensate receivers, fuel storage tanks, cooling towers, flash tanks, and more, providing high and low-level alarms from a single tank entry.
Principle of Operation: The float level switches operate using a magnet and pivoted switch actuator. As the liquid level rises, the float lifts an attraction sleeve into the magnet's field, actuating the switch. A spring retracts the magnet when the level falls, deactivating the switch.
Models:
  • T20 - Single Switch Model: Designed for narrow differential level alarm applications.
  • T21 - Dual Switch Model: Combines two narrow differential level controls for applications requiring two separate switching points.
Agency Approvals: The models are approved by various agencies including ATEX, FM, IECEx, CSA, and EAC, with specific classifications for hazardous locations.
Switch Mechanisms and Housings: Various series of switches are available, including hermetically sealed, pneumatic, dry contact, and inductive proximity switches, each with specific temperature and application ratings.
Dimensions: Detailed dimensions are provided for different models and configurations, ensuring proper installation and operation.
Selection Data: Detailed order codes and material specifications are provided for both T20 and T21 models, including float selection, pressure ratings, and tank connection options.
Materials of Construction: The document outlines the materials used in different models of float switches, including carbon steel and 316 stainless steel for floats and trims, and 400 series stainless steel for magnetic sleeves.
Float Selection and Pressure Ratings: It provides specifications for float sizes and their pressure ratings at various temperatures, highlighting the maximum actuating levels and specific gravity requirements for different float sizes.
Tank Connection and Float Size: Details are given on compatible tank connections and float sizes, including ASME and EN 1092-1 flange specifications.
Switch Mechanism and Housing: The document describes various switch series, their temperature ranges, contact types, and housing materials, emphasizing weatherproof and ATEX certifications.
Physical and Electrical Specifications: Specifications include measured variables, process temperature and pressure limits, wetted materials, and switch ratings. It also covers electrical connection details for hazardous and safe areas.
Quality Assurance and Warranty: Magnetrol's quality assurance system is ISO 9001:2008 certified, ensuring high-quality design, construction, and service. A five-year warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship.

A permanent magnet ➀ is attached to a pivoted switch actuator and adjustment screw ➁. As the float ➂ rises following the liquid level, it raises the attraction sleeve ➃ into the field of the magnet, which then snaps against the non-magnetic enclosing tube ➄, actuating the switch ≈. The enclosing tube provides a static pressure boundary between the switch mechanism and the process. On a falling level, an inconel spring retracts the magnet, deactivating the switch. pivot return spring process liquid process liquid rising level falling level T20 – SINGLE SWITCH MODEL Level alarm applications Narrow...
