Macchi S.p.A. - 21040 Venegono Inferiore (VA) Italy - via Papa Paolo VI, 5 - Tel. +39 0331 827.717 - Fax. +39 0331 827.750 email: macchi@macchi.it - www.macchi.it Rev.001-09/02 www.bonobodesign.it The handling of winding shafts has always represented a problem in film production facilities due to how heavy these shafts can get. To reduce the number of employees needed to perform this action as well as to reduce vulnerability to possible injuries suffered while loading heavy shafts into place, many companies have opted to install an automatic shaft loading system. Macchi has developed a modular system for shaft handling that can be fitted onto every BO PLUS® winder that we manufacture. We have 3 levels of automation to offer: • Easy Load® basic. A mechanical system that allows the sliding of the shafts after they have been lifted with hoists directly onto the roll change chain. • Module C. Automatic shaft handling. • The Module C option can be en hanced by adding a motorized automatic platform to move the finished rolls onto the pallet to be deposited wherever the customer chooses. Group with hydraulic platform Module C Double version for application on “face-to-face” winders The content of this catalogue is for informative purposes only. Extruding film into rolls with excellent optical and physical properties is paramount to the success of all film manufacturers. It can also be said that film being wound incorrectly can compromise the downstream use of the film as it is converted through printing, lamination, and bag making. Since the BO PLUS® was introduced in the 90’s, Macchi has produced hundreds of this state-of the-art winder. Operating throughout the world, the PLUS® winder has proven its versatility and durability through daily use in the winding of a variety of film types, thicknesses, and widths. From very stiff...

The main concept behind the operation of the BO PLUS® winder design is as follows: • Film is wound tangentially against a large diameter roller. This is usually coated with grooved rubber, but for some applications can be made of chrome-coated steel and drilled to allow for air evacuation. • As the roll is winding it slides on horizontal guides, unloading its own weight in a vertical direction and not against the winding roller. The result is smoother operation and more precise control of the contact pressure, avoiding the roll tightness that can cause problems during the unwinding process....

gusseted films by eliminating the folds that can appear at the beginning of the fresh rolls. The control of film tension is fundamental, from the beginning to the end of the reel. For this reason, Macchi has selected only the best, high-tech components incorporating the most technologically advanced products for the manufacture of the BO PLUS® winder. These include the following: • Wear-and-tear resistant steel load cells for high precision and lasting durability • A/C motors with digital inverter control • High-tech encoders for the speed and pull stability control in the axial system •...

Detail of contact pressure roll Sketched detail of nip roll showing 90° film separation for adhesive products The latest generation of advanced extrusion, but especially coextrusion systems introduced over the past few years have brought with them a new set of issues to resolve. Eventual imperfections on the reel can compromise its own processing. The following film types have unique processing and winding subtleties. Macchi’s engineering expertise has allowed us to manufacture the winder with the ability to handle such delicate and tricky films: • Stiff films containing PP/EVOH/PA/PS •...
