Temperature control For Drum & Container Heaters - 1

Temperature Control For Drum & Container Heaters Accurate and repeatable temperature control can be very important for many industrial heating processes, such as gently warming pressurised gas cylinders, achieving a reliable finish when curing composites, and producing consistent material properties in waxes and resins. All our popular industrial heaters have adjustable temperature control as standard, whilst our specialist ATEX/IECEx designs are self-limiting as a first principle. Our legendary THERMOSAFEⓇ induction drum heater and our ATEX/IECEx rated Inteliheat Flexiplus heating jackets are examples where additional temperature control is often not needed. When required for process or design reasons we can offer various solutions for both safe and hazardous area use. Please also refer to our product note – “Temperature Control for Ex Hazardous Areas”. General Industrial flexible heating jackets Most of our popular flexible heating jackets incorporate an analogue adjustable thermostat with a range dependent on the jacket type. For the vast majority of applications this is a highly reliable control mechanism, simple to use (just turn the knob), robust, foolproof, and excellent value for money. For certain applications it may be appropriate to add either a digital control unit (see details below), or an internal, fixed temperature thermostat which cannot be accidentally adjusted. Thermosafe induction drum heater and Faratherm induction base heater Our Thermosafe and Faratherm heaters both use induction coils rather than traditional radiant heating elements. The maximum surface temperatures are self-limiting (i.e. at a certain point the heat input balances the energy losses), and depend only on the a.c. voltage and ambient temperature. The Thermosafe itself always remains cooler than the drum being heated. When switched off there is no retained element heat and no temperature over-shoot. For many applications additional control is not required. If essential to the process or batch, we can supply a number of options whether the use be for safe or hazardous areas. Digiheat base heater – “safe area” environments. Our Digiheat base heater for ordinary industrial locations comes as standard with a clear large display digital controller, similar to the optional device used with our general heating jackets. This allows for precise control of the top plate surface temperature. The design is optimised for reliable long-term use with or without our Thermosafe Induction Drum Heaters or flexible jackets.

Flexible Heating Jacket Controller Options Digital controllers Some applications require precise monitoring of temperature, for which a digital controller is ideal. Good examples might be in the production and repair of composite surfaces, such as wind turbine blades or yacht hulls, or batch processes where an exothermic reaction might occur. Our range of digital controllers for standard and custom flexible heating jackets offer simple user interfaces with clear touch-screen displays, as well as advanced features such as secondary point temperature regulation, ‘ramp and soak’ programming,...
