Product catalog summary

Introduction
Rubigo is a weathering steel primarily used for facade cassettes, known for its natural, timeless appearance and maintenance-free longevity. It develops a protective patina over time, enhancing its aesthetic appeal and resistance to corrosion.

Material Characteristics
Rubigo forms a dense oxide layer when exposed to outdoor elements, which prevents further corrosion. It is resistant to high temperatures and exhibits minimal size changes compared to standard steel. The material's rusted brown surface is aesthetically versatile, complementing other natural materials like stone and vegetation.

Surface and Colour
Upon delivery, Rubigo cassettes may already show signs of patination. The final appearance is a dark purple-brown rust surface, achieved through prolonged exposure to alternating moisture and drying conditions.

Compatibility with Other Materials
During the initial two years, Rubigo produces rusty run-off water, which can stain other materials. It is advisable to use materials that are easily washable or not permanently discoloured, such as enamelled sheet metal, anodised aluminium, stainless steel, and glass. Materials like concrete, unpainted steel, and wood are prone to staining and should be avoided.

Installation Guidelines
Rubigo should not be in direct contact with zinc-coated metals due to galvanic corrosion risks. Installation should use coated battens and polyethylene fabric as spacers, with stainless steel fixings recommended.

Sustainability and Philosophy
Lindab emphasizes sustainable construction, using recyclable steel to minimize environmental impact. Their philosophy focuses on creating healthy indoor climates and simplifying sustainable building processes through innovative product design.

Rubigo. Beautiful, natural, timeless. Rubigo is a weathering steel which is principally used in facade cassettes. After exposure outdoors to rain and wind, an even, dense oxide layer (patina) is formed on the surface of the steel. The layer impedes further access of moisture from causing further corrosion. The steel is resistant to high temperatures and does not alter in size as much as standard steel due to variations in temperature. Furthermore, it does not rust as fast as standard steel. The material produces a beautifully patinated surface which requires minimum maintenance over the years....

Surface and colour When Rubigo facade cassettes are delivered to the construction site, it is possible that the patination process may have started on parts of the cassettes and/ or on certain cassettes, depending on the weather, the wrapping and the time that the cassettes have been outside. The final result after the patination process is a dark purple brown rust surface. The weather affects how long it takes before the material acquires its final appearance. It is hard to speed up the change in colour as the protective patina develops over a prolonged period when the material is exposed to...
