PIPE MILL Industry

PIPE MILL Industry

PIPE MILL Industry

Product catalog summary
Drivers & Trends: The pipeline market demands higher steel grades and thicker walls, with X80 being common and X100 and X120 gaining traction. Construction pipes also require multi-layer welding.
Application Requirements: Pipes are tack welded using the GMAW process and then submerged arc welded. Quality control is crucial, with requirements varying by pipe type and use. A quality higher than grade B of ISO5817 is generally necessary.
Lincoln Solution: Lincoln Electric, in collaboration with Uhrhan & Schwill Schweisstechnik GmbH, offers advanced technology for multiple arc welding, including turnkey solutions, customized equipment, and proven power source technology. Their solutions ensure traceability and meet ISO9001 standards.
Equipment: Lincoln Electric provides equipment for multiple arc welding, including advanced control systems and power sources like the Power Wave® AC/DC 1000® SD, which supports high current capability and digital solutions for submerged arc welding.
Consumables: Various flux types and wire combinations are available to meet different application needs. These include fast freezing flux for spiral pipes, low melting flux for long seams, and high viscosity flux for thick wall pipes. Each flux type is designed to optimize welding performance and meet specific impact toughness requirements.

PIPE MILL Industry-1

Lincoln Electric f'Htl 1 ’ignpTON ■•ntuoiui IDjll.-nirt PIPE MILL INDUSTRY DRIVERS & TRENDS Higher steel grades and bigger wall thicknesses are needed for the pipeline market. Same is true for construction pipes welded with multi layers. Meanwhile, X80 is typical in most pipe mills while X100 and X120 are gaining momentum. Pipes are usually continuously tack welded with the buried arc process (GMAW) and afterwards submerged arc welded with one or multi layers on the inside and outside. Highest repeatability at lowest defect rate is essential to pipe production. Therefore, quality control is an important factor for this industry. Matching the material properties requires optimized flux and wire combinations as well as welding procedures matching the heat input. Details of quality requirements vary depending on the type of pipe (spiral or longitudinal) and the usage (water pipeline, construction pipe or gas/oil pipeline), but a quality higher than grade B of iso5817 is important to most applications.
