INVENTING “THE” WIND TURBINE The Leitwind success story starts with ropeways, a core expertise of LEITWIND’s parent company HTI. It has evolved from a group of ropeway builders which has, for decades, installed leading-edge technology into spectacular mountain terrain. One of the interesting features of ropeways is the electric direct drive: Its simple, rugged construction has proven its outstanding safety and reliability even in the most extreme conditions. The Leitwind success story began with the application of this technology in another, not obviously related, product: the wind turbine....

TECHNOLOGY Fewer Components, more Advantages. Efficiency Designing our wind turbines, we have eliminated all unnecessary parts. What is not there cannot wear nor break down. And if nothing wears down or breaks, the energy keeps flowing. It is as simple as that. 16

ELEMENTS OF SUCCESS: THE DIRECT DRIVE Leitwind direct drive wind turbines produce energy without gearboxes. Reducing the number of rotating parts reduces wear and with it, operation and maintenance activities. This also reduces friction, driving up efficiency in low wind speeds. Furthermore, Leitwind turbines rotate more than 20 times slower than traditional wind turbines, which again reduces wear. Their multi-pole synchronous generator with permanent magnets makes the most out of the available wind power: The result is outstanding reliability and energy yield, adding up to outstanding...

TECHNOLOGY ELEMENTS OF SUCCESS: MODULARITY The Leitwind turbine design is based on a modular concept. This reduces transportation and installation costs and allows the installation of turbines in terrain with difficult access. In Leitwind turbines, the generator is part of the load-bearing structure, which contributes to an economical weight management. The innovative machine carrier gives safe and easy access to all serviceable elements. The modular design allows speedy replacement of rotor parts without dismantling the entire generator.
