Product catalog summary
Infrared Source Product Range Overview
Axetris IR sources are micro-machined, electrically modulated thermal infrared emitters with true blackbody radiation characteristics. They offer low power consumption, high emissivity, and long lifetime. The design includes a resistive heating element on a thin dielectric membrane suspended on a micro-machined silicon structure. Packaged in TO-39 cans, they can be fitted with various broadband filters and are ideal for compact IR gas detection modules.

Benefits
  • True blackbody radiation (2 to 16 μm)
  • High emissivity and modulation depth
  • Fast electrical modulation
  • Low power consumption and long lifetime
  • Rugged MEMS design

Infrared Gas Detection Applications
Applications include non-dispersive infrared spectroscopy (NDIR), photoacoustic infrared spectroscopy (PAS), and attenuated-total-reflectance FTIR spectroscopy (ATR). Target gases include CO, CO2, VOC, NOx, NH3, SOx, SF6, hydrocarbons, and more. These sources are used in medical, automotive, HVAC, and safety industries.

Technical Specifications
  • Cold Resistance: 35 – 55 Ω
  • Hot Resistance: 54 – 89 Ω
  • Electrical input power: 450 mW
  • Operating voltage: 5.2 – 6.5 V
  • Operating current: 68 – 86 mA
  • Heating time constant: 11 ms
  • Cooling time constant: 17 ms
  • Working temperature: 456 °C
  • Emissivity: 0.95
  • Lifetime: > 10 years

IR Source Product Range
Various types of IR sources are available, including those with standard TO-Cap, low profile TO-Cap, and standard reflectors. Custom products are also available.

Performance and Reliability
The IR sources exhibit high electrical to optical conversion efficiency due to their black surface and optimized heat flux. The Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) for membrane breakage is based on extensive reliability testing.

Graphical User Interface (GUI)
A simple GUI based on LabVIEW software allows for live parameter updates and data display. The IRS LabKit facilitates the design-in process of Axetris IR sources.
