Aluminized films, a cheaper alternative, use a thin aluminum coating on plastic film to achieve some barrier properties. The study measured water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) using a C330H water vapor transmission rate test system based on the electrolytic sensor method. This method uses the electrical current generated by water vapor electrolysis to quantify permeability. The C330H system offered accurate and reliable results with minimal human influence due to its automation and stable temperature/humidity control.

The thickness of the aluminized layer significantly affects the moisture barrier performance of VMBOPP films. A small increase in thickness can significantly enhance barrier properties.
