1. Background & Importance Flexible package is usually sealed by heat-sealing. Heat the heal-sealing device to certain temperature, then put the area needed to be sealed of the flexible package into this device to transform the sealing area into molten condition. Pressurize the heat-sealing device so that the two layers of packaging material will fully fuse together under pressure. Heat-sealing temperature, heat-sealing pressure, and heat-sealing dwell time will affect the joint strength of the heat-sealed area.

Heatsealbility is an important performance indicator of packaging materials. Heat sealing temperature- the most importation factor Polymer materials (plastic, rubber, etc.) do not have a fixed melting point, but have a melting temperature range. When the material is heated to this temperature range, the material will transform into a molten state. Within this range, the higher the heat seal temperature, the better the material flow. Therefore, the temperature will directly affect the heat sealing effect of the material, and will also indirectly affect the heat sealing pressure.

Heat sealing pressure – range must be wide, force must be uniform. The heat-sealing pressure causes the molten films to penetrate and bond with each other, and the polymer segments between the films are bonded together based on intermolecular forces. If the heat-sealing pressure is too low, it is difficult to achieve a true fusion of the two layers of heat-sealed materials, or it is difficult to catch up the gas in the welding joint, which may cause partial leakage welding. If the heat-seal pressure is too high, when the heat-seal temperature is slightly higher, the melt material may be squeezed...
