γ-RAM Radio-HPLC Detector
The γ-RAM Model 3 by The Radiochromatography Company is a high-performance instrument designed for continuous-flow measurement of gamma- and positron-emitters. It features a massive NaI well detector with a heavy lead shield, ensuring excellent resolution and counting efficiency.
Detector Specifications
The core component is the detector assembly, which includes a 1½" diameter by 2" long NaI well detector coupled with a 1½" diameter PMT. This setup provides high counting efficiency and low background interference. The detector can be placed up to six feet from the electronics chassis, with longer cables available on request.
Electronics and Display
The γ-RAM Model 3 shares its electronics with the β-RAM Model 3, featuring two counting channels, two analog input channels, and two 15-bit analog outputs. The digital display provides a 20-column by two-line alphanumeric readout for counts and digitized analog inputs.
Analog Inputs and Outputs
Two 13-bit analog input channels are available for digitizing outputs from mass detectors or gradient pumps, with adjustable baseline offsets. Two 15-bit analog outputs are provided for external processing, with full-scale count ranges from 1 to 32,767 cps.
Measurement Cells
Fixed-Volume cells (5 µL to 200 µL) are available in Teflon or stainless steel, suitable for gamma- and positron-emitters. A Variable-Volume cell option is available for low-energy gamma-emitters, featuring a Teflon tubing coil and a tungsten shutter.
Valve Options
The instrument offers several valve options, including a Splitter Valve for HPLC eluate management, a RadWaste valve for waste segregation, and a Multi-port Injector Valve for sample handling and efficiency determination.
Control Software
ScintFlow SA© is the supplied control software, allowing for instrument operation and data output even without a connected computer. Laura Lite 3TM is an optional software package for control, acquisition, and data reporting, featuring advanced functionalities like automatic peakfinder and decay correction.
Physical Specifications
The electronics cabinet can be oriented horizontally or vertically, with dimensions and weight specified for both configurations. The detector also has standard and optional sizes, with corresponding weights.

Detector The heart of the ã-RAM Model 3 is the detector assembly. A massive integral- line NaI well detector (1½" dia x 2" long) coupled to a 1½" dia PMT ensures excellent resolution and the highest counting efficiency for gamma- and positron-emitters. The heavy lead shield provides low backgrounds even in a "hot" environment or when energetic isotopes in the lines leading to and from the counting cell might otherwise affect the detector. Valve Options These options may be chosen in any combination. The Splitter Valve at the entry to the system allows all or any part of the HPLC eluate to bypass the instrument. It is primarily of interest for preparative work where the amount of activity is so great as to potentially swamp the instrument. The RadWaste valve, placed at the cell exit covers the range from 1 to 32,767 counts per dwell period.
