Product catalog summary
Overview
The Jena-Tec Duplex Tool-Post Grinding Units are designed for precision and durability, featuring enclosed fan-cooled motors and balanced rotating parts. They comply with BS 4581 Pt2 and ISO R6666 standards, with interchangeable flanges available for various models. Custom units can be tailored for specific applications.
Heavy Duty Tool-Post Grinders
Equipped with precision ball or roller bearings and enclosed motors with external fan cooling, these grinders include a switch box for easy control and are designed with safety in mind. They can be customized for left or right-hand use and are available for repair and reconditioning.
Internal and External Tool-Post Grinders
These grinders require special flanges for cup wheels and are available in various types with different specifications for wheel size, speed, and motor power. Suitable for lathes of varying center heights, they can include built-in diamond dressers.
Long Reach Quills and Spindles
Designed for deep hole grinding, these quills and spindles are interchangeable with standard quills and come in various lengths and diameters. They are used for grinding smaller diameter bores at considerable depths.
Motorised Grinding Heads
Available in 3-phase only, these compact units are suitable for special purpose machines, featuring precision grinding spindles in different power ratings and speeds.
Direct Drive, High Frequency Tool-Post Grinders
The D68 and D69 units are direct-driven internal grinders designed for quick trueing of chuck jaws, operating at high speeds and continuously rated.
Specifications
  • Direct Drive Tool-Post Grinders: Available for 3-phase supply, powered by rotor/stator units with speeds of 1450 and 2900 rpm on 50 Hz and 1720 and 3400 rpm on 60 Hz.
  • Indirect Drive Tool-Post Grinders: Belt-driven, offering flexibility for both external and internal grinding.
  • Abrasive Band Tool-Post Grinders: Designed for effective use of modern abrasive bands, featuring a rigid cartridge type spindle.
Key Features
  • Grinders run at constant speed due to solid-state frequency converters.
  • Mounting arms allow for adjustable positioning.
  • Left-hand threads direct sparks and dust away from the operator.
  • Electrical interlocks prevent damage to converters if disconnected during operation.
Operational Instructions
  • Ensure correct mounting on lathes by aligning the grinder's center line with the lathe axis.
  • Inspect grinding wheels for damage and use paper blotters during fitting.
  • Adjust belt tension appropriately to avoid wear.
  • Check rotation direction and ensure wheel guards are in place before operation.
Safety and Maintenance
  • Regularly inspect and dress grinding wheels before use.
  • Ensure proper earthing of motors and check rotation direction for three-phase machines.
  • Follow safety protocols for mounting and operating grinders.
Applications
  • Suitable for grinding a variety of materials including steel, non-ferrous metals, and hard materials.
  • Offers flexibility in material removal rates and finish quality based on grit size and contact area.
Wheel Selection
  • Abrasive Type: Identified by numbers or letters, varies by manufacturer.
  • Grit Size: Ranges from 9-900, typically 36-100 for most uses.
  • Grade: Soft 'E' to very hard 'Z', usually between 'J' & 'P'.
  • Bond: Typically 'V' for vitrified, 'R' for resinoid in cut-off wheels.
Wheel Speeds: Vitrified wheels should operate between 5,000 ft/min (27m/sec) and 6,500 ft/min (35m/sec).
Wheels for External and Internal Work
  • Dress the wheel before use to remove radial run-out and axial wobble.
  • Use a shallow cup for shoulder grinding to avoid smearing.
  • Choose wheel size based on bore size, avoid excessive contact area.
Coolant and Grinding Dust
  • Coolant reduces heat and dust, essential for internal work.
  • Grinding dust should be managed with coolant or dust-extraction units.
Diamond Dressers
  • Use diamonds sparingly; 0.3 to 0.5 carat for wheels up to 8", 1 carat for larger wheels.
Use and Maintenance
  • Bearings are precision units, adjustments should be minimal.
  • Spindles have sealed lubrication, require no maintenance.
  • Spare parts require machine serial and type number for orders.
Grinding Spindles
  • Various models available for external and internal grinding, with specific drive types and wheel diameters.
Capacities and Capabilities
  • Follow correct mounting procedures and speed checks to prevent accidents.
  • Vitrified bond wheels have specific speed limits based on size.
Notes on Fitting Wheels
  • Never use damaged wheels or exceed marked speed limits.
  • Ensure wheel guard is in place before starting the machine.
High Frequency Machines
  • Direct drive internal grinders require specific power supply setups.
  • Inverter settings are factory-set and should not be adjusted in the field.
