So, on a 2-pole motor, a 50Hz supply will give a synchronous speed of 3000 rpm and increasing the supply frequency to 100Hz will give a synchronous speed of 6000 rpm. The variation in frequency is most commonly obtained from a Static Frequency Inverter which also allows control of the voltage of the supply to the motor.
