Operating Instructions Rotex,

Product catalog summary
Introduction
The document provides comprehensive operating instructions for the Rotex 70/10/20 wastewater pumps, emphasizing the necessity of reading the manual thoroughly before installation, electrical connection, and commissioning. Compliance with additional operating instructions for individual components is also required.
EC Declaration of Conformity
The Rotex 70/10/20 pump unit complies with EU directives on machinery, electromagnetic compatibility, and low-voltage equipment, adhering to harmonized standards such as EN 809 and EN 292 for safety and performance.
General Information
The KSB pump is designed with state-of-the-art standards and undergoes continuous quality control. The manual provides essential information for reliable and efficient operation, emphasizing adherence to specified limit values for medium handled, capacity, speed, density, pressure, temperature, and motor rating.
Safety Instructions
Safety instructions are crucial during installation, operation, and maintenance. The manual must be read and understood by all personnel involved. Non-compliance can lead to hazards, forfeiture of damage claims, and failure of machine functions. Safety awareness and adherence to national accident prevention regulations are imperative.
Transport and Storage
The pump unit should be transported horizontally and stored vertically in a dry, dark, frost-proof room, secured to prevent toppling.
Product Description and Specifications
Rotex pumps are vertical, single-stage centrifugal pumps designed for light and heavy-duty applications. They are not suitable for abrasive, corrosive, combustible, or explosive media and are equipped with an automatic level control system.
Assembly and Installation
Installation must comply with safety regulations, including electrical standards. The pump should be installed on solid ground, ensuring the float can move freely. The direction of rotation must be verified for three-phase motors.
Pipeline Specifications and Installation
Pipelines should match the pump nozzles and be adequately supported. The pump should not be used as an anchorage point, and thermal expansions must be compensated to avoid excessive forces that could cause leaks. A non-return valve is necessary for automatic drainage, and discharge lines should be positioned above the backwash level.
Power Supply Connection
Ensure compliance with safety regulations for electrical connections. Rotex pumps come with a power cable and plug, ready for connection. Pumps without a plug must be connected by a trained electrician. The mains voltage must match the voltage on the nameplate, and recommended fusing is specified for different models.
Motor Protection
Rotex E motors are protected by an overcurrent circuit breaker, requiring manual reset. Rotex D motors have temperature switches that automatically reset after cooling. External protection equipment should ensure complete separation from the mains.
Direction of Rotation
Rotex E does not require rotation checks, while Rotex D requires verification of the mains phase sequence. Incorrect rotation can prevent the pump from reaching its duty point and may cause damage.
Level Control Switch
Rotex pumps include a level control switch for automatic operation. Rotex 70 uses a float switch, while Rotex 10/20 uses displacement weights. Proper setting of switching levels is crucial to prevent the pump from running dry.
Commissioning and Start-up
Ensure all installation and operational checks are completed before starting the pump. The pump should operate quietly and without vibrations. Leakage from the intermediate pipe is normal.
Operating Limits
The pump is not suitable for sewage or wastewater with coarse substances. It should handle chemically neutral wastewater without sand or faeces. Operating conditions, such as switching frequency and voltage, must be adhered to prevent damage.
Maintenance and Servicing
Regular checks improve reliability. Maintenance should be performed by authorized personnel, and pumps handling hazardous liquids must be decontaminated. An inspection contract is recommended.
Troubleshooting
Common issues include tripped circuit breakers, low voltage, and clogged pumps. Remedies involve resetting breakers, checking electrical connections, and cleaning components.
Technical Document Summary
Specifications and Issues
Defective radial bearing in the motor requires contacting KSB’s pump service. Impermissible air or gas content in the fluid pumped; consultation with KSB is advised. Handling of aggressive or abrasive mediums should be consulted with KSB.
Cautionary Note
Opening the pump unit within the warranty period without consulting the manufacturer will void any claims for damages.

Fitting the Level Control Device
Components such as the microswitch and thread are pre-fitted at the factory. Instructions provided for assembling the level control device, including threading and securing weights to determine pump start-up and switch-off levels. Ensure adequate play in the thread for proper microswitch actuation.
Recycling
Rotex pumps are made of materials that can be recycled separately.
Safety Standards
Pumps comply with the EC machinery directive 89/392/EEC, Annex IIA. Motors comply with the EC low-voltage directive 73/23/EEC.
