RESISTANCE TEMPERATURE SENSOR - RTD'S General information about Resistance Temperature Sensors (RTD's) The RTD is a temperature sensor containing a resistive temperature sensitive element. The resistance of the element changes with the temperature. For measuring within a range of –200 °C...+850 °C, the platinum sensors are the most common RTD sensors. Sensor elements made of platinum are normally produced for 100 Ohm at 0 °C, described as Pt100. Other types are Pt500 and Pt1000. Besides platinum, nickel and copper are also used. Sensor elements made from nickel are produced for 100 Ohm at 0...

RESISTANCE TEMPERATURE SENSOR - RTD'S The more rigid the connection between the wires and the base of the sensor element, the worse are the changes. When designing a temperature sensor it is important that the mechanical stress is not transmitted to the sensor element. Another common type of mechanical stress is vibration, which can cause disruption to the internal conductors. For vibration resistant RTDs, it is imortant that the conductors have as little freedom of movement as possible. The opposite applies to sensors which are exposed to pressure and bending. The conductors should then...
