OverviewKONČAR Electrical Engineering Institute (KIET) has been a leader in applied research and development in transport and energy for over 50 years. Currently, it is a private organization focusing on renewable energy solutions, control and monitoring systems, and advanced laboratory testing.
Research Projects- Horizon 2020 – SafeLog: Focuses on safe human-robot interaction in logistics using a safety vest that communicates with facility systems to ensure safety and performance.
- FER-KIET: Develops technologies for power plants and rail vehicles, covering advanced sensors, microgrid control algorithms, multilevel converters, and tram driver assistance systems.
- EUREKA - VISINEV: Enhances cognitive processes in complex system development using interactive computational tools for visualization and analysis.
Commercial R&D&I Projects- Digital Voltage Regulator (DRN): A generator voltage control system for power plants, first implemented in 1993.
- Train Propulsion Converters Control Unit: Embedded hardware and algorithms for propulsion converters, used in 23 electric multiple units.
- Supercaps on Tramcars: Energy storage using ultracapacitors for railway vehicles, resulting in a prototype unit.
- Railway Crossings Safety Platform: A certified safety platform for railway crossroads, meeting CENELEC standards, level SIL4.
Proprietary Solutions- KonTCMS: A modular train control and monitoring system applicable to various rail vehicles.
- Wind Control System: Developed for KONČAR’s wind turbines, based on platforms used in rail and power plant solutions.
- Hybrid Box®: An award-winning, 100% green off-grid power supply combining solar, wind, fuel cells, and batteries.
- KonSol: A central photovoltaic inverter with smart grid capabilities and a modular design.

LaboratoriesThe institute has 10 laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for testing power, electrical, electronic, gas, and other products. Seven laboratories are accredited under EN ISO 17025 norm, including high power, high voltage, electromagnetic compatibility and safety, calibration, physical and chemical testing, mechanical and technological testing, and noise and vibrations laboratories.
