Infrared welding

Product catalog summary
Overview
This document provides a comprehensive overview of KLN Ultraschall's plastic welding technology, focusing on infrared welding and its integration with other welding methods. KLN Ultraschall, part of the Crest Ultrasonics Corp., specializes in complex technologies for plastics welding and ultrasonic cleaning.

Infrared Welding Technology
Infrared (IR) welding uses short-wave (0.78-2 µm) and medium-wave (2-4 µm) radiation to heat plastics. The efficiency of this process depends on the absorption capacity of the plastic material. Short waves penetrate deeper, while medium waves heat the surface more effectively. Key advantages include contactless operation, high melting depth, and integration capability with existing machines. Additives in plastics can affect absorption and penetration depth.

Radiator Types and Applications
Various radiators are used for heating welding joints, including short- and medium-wave radiators. These are suitable for large surfaces and can be adapted to specific welding contours using masks. The document details the properties of different radiators, such as metal foil radiators and ceramic welding nests, highlighting their quick reaction times and energy efficiency.

Vibration Welding with Infrared Pre-Heating
KLN offers vibration welders with integrated infrared pre-heating to reduce abrasion during the solid matter friction phase. Models in the LVW series are detailed, with specifications such as frequency, amplitude, joining area, and maximum joining force.

Machine Specifications
The document lists specifications for various models of vibration welders, including dimensions, maximum joining force, and control features. These machines are hydraulically or servo-driven and equipped with touch panels for operation.

Conclusion
KLN Ultraschall provides advanced solutions for plastic welding, integrating infrared technology to enhance efficiency and precision. Their machines are adaptable to various applications, offering high performance and control.

Infrared welding-1

Founded in 1947 by the physicist Dr. Lehfeld and known since 1972 as KLN Ultraschall, we are today one of the leading European manufacturers of machines and equipment for welding thermoplastic parts and ultrasonic cleaning technology in Europe. In January 2000 KLN Ultraschall has joined the Crest Ultrasonics Corp., USA/Trenton, New Jersey, a group with international activities. All over the world a staff of more than 1.000 employees works on 20 locations in 12 countries. The complex technologies of plastics welding and ultrasonic cleaning are the main activities of the Crest Group. Currently at the German locations in Heppenheim and Fürth an expert team of 200 employees works on complex customer projects. Plastic welding technology Standard machines for ultrasonic welding, ultrasonic multi-head machines, ultrasonic continuous welding for aluminum foil or thermoplastics, special machines, vibration welders, spin welders, hot plate welders, processing machines for plastics fuel tanks. Ultrasonic cleaning technology Ultrasonic vibration tanks, compact machines with drying feature, special machines, modular tank systems with agitation, rinsing, drying and rust inhibiting. A Crest Group Company NFRARED WELD For welding by means of infrared technology short-wave (0,78-2 pm) as well as medium-wave (2-4 pm) infrared radiation of the spectrum can be used. This depends particularly on the absorption capacity of radiation of the respective plastic material. The more precisely the radiator is adapted to the absorption capacity of the plastic material, the higher is the degree of efficiency, that means the conversion into warmth. Short waves are absorbed in deeper layers of the material, whereas medium waves heat it up more at the surface. The nearer the radiation source...
