Introduction
Net radiation is the balance between incoming solar and sky radiation and outgoing ground radiation. It involves short-wave radiation (0.3 to 3 µm) and long-wave Far Infrared (FIR) radiation (4.5 to over 40 µm). The four components of net radiation are incoming and reflected solar radiation, and downward and upward infrared radiation. These can be measured using pyranometers and pyrgeometers, or a net radiometer that combines these sensors.

Net Radiometers
CNR 4: A four-component net radiometer that measures solar and infrared radiation separately. It includes two ISO 9060 Second Class pyranometers and two pyrgeometers. Features include a silicon meniscus dome for water runoff, a mounting rod, and an optional CNF 4 heated ventilation unit to minimize offsets and remove precipitation.
NR Lite2: A single-component net radiometer used in agriculture and hydrology. It measures total net radiation with a thermopile detector and has a wide spectral response. It includes a mounting rod and a bird prevention stick.

Applications
Net radiometers are used in agro-meteorology for evapotranspiration studies, and in climatology, meteorology, and hydrology for radiation balance measurements. They are crucial for global warming studies, especially over glaciers and ice fields.

Accessories
CNF 4 Ventilation Unit: Provides clean airflow over CNR 4 radiometer domes, with a 10 W heater to prevent dew and frost. Operates on 12 VDC.
CMB 1 Mounting Bracket: For attaching mounting rods to poles, masts, or walls, allowing for leveling and secure attachment.

Specifications

Net radiation is the balance between incoming radiation from the sun and sky and outgoing radiation from the ground. Short-wave radiation of 0.3 to 3 µm wavelength reaches the Earth’s surface, where some is reected and the rest of the energy is absorbed by the surface. Incoming long-wave Far Infrared (FIR) radiation from 4.5 to more than 40 µm is also absorbed by the surface, which heats up and emits FIR back to the sky. The integrated 10 W heating can be switched on by the operator when required. This raises the temperature of the domes and windows slightly above ambient to prevent the formation of dew and frost and to disperse precipitation. The ventilation fan and heater run from 12 VDC and can be operated by the accessory CVP 2 universal AC-DC power adaptor.
